Calipari shows up at Spring Practice

Bl6OnixIYAA2m5w

There were two surprise visitors at this morning’s spring practice: Bob Stoops and John Calipari. The Oklahoma coach stopped by to see how his brother was doing, and Cal, in true Cal fashion, showed up in a suit before heading off on the recruiting trail.

Matt, Ryan, and Drew will be doing the radio show live from spring practice in about twenty minutes, so stay tuned to hear more behind-the-scenes scoop.

In the meantime, give that picture your best caption.

I sure hope both of them can teach Stupes to coach better.

Our guy can coach and if you couldn’t see that last season you are an idiot.

Wait. What did you see last season? You sure you were watching Kentucky?

Your expectations must’ve been very unrealistic. When your predecessor recruits at an uncompetitive level, there’s little you can do. That showed on the offensive side of the ball when the majority of the production came from first-year players. Give him time.

It was obvious the team improved greatly from the season before. The man was given one of the least talented teams in big conference D-I football. Even without much talent, the guy got the kids playing extremely hard and they were competitive in many games they had no business being competitive in. If you couldn’t see the obvious improvement from Joker’s last season to Stoops’ first, I don’t know what you were watching. You don’t know football and it’s obvious.

I saw a team with much upgraded talent from the year before, go 2-10. Just like the year before. He beat an FCS team and possibly the worst team in FBS. Some improvement right there…

So if he upgraded the talent and had them playing hard, yet the results were the same, doesn’t that mean his on-field coaching is sub-par?

Having to rely on freshmen in college football makes it damn near impossible to have much success. His on-field coaching is far from sub-par and anybody that really understands football could clearly see that. The guy is a good coach. Give him until fall of 2015 and I’m confident we will start to become a program UK fans will be really proud of.

“Having to rely on freshmen in college football makes it damn near impossible to have much success. ”

Yet he’s thinking of starting Drew Barker. How much sense does that make?

So let me get this straight… The year before, the team goes 2-10 and Stoops has 3 months to recruit for the following season, in the toughest conference bar-none, and you expect him to do much better with freshman? You are an idiot!

  17. Bob better not be spying on us in case we play Okie in a bowl game! Hah! J/K. I would like to hear some of the conversations about SEC vs. the rest of the world at the Stoops’ Thanksgiving dinners.

As a UK undergrad alum and OU grad school alum living in Oklahoma, this is a great picture! OU has a passoniate fan base that is much like Kentucky’s fan base. The Sooners will bandwagon as fans for any team or person that shows OU some support. UK fans should do the same with OU. And this isn’t about SEC v. Big 12; it’s about blood being thicker than water (or conference allegience). We should be thrilled that Bob is at UK, wearing UK gear, and supporting his brother.

I’ve liked the OU program ever since Bob take the HC job. Fun to watch. Glad to see him in Lex to support his brother. Good PR for both. Any chance Bob is headed down to Berea to try to recruit Damien Harris? Hope not.
