Calipari says the team is working on defensive rebounding

Screen Shot 2014-12-30 at 4.30.23 PM

John Calipari released the latest episode of his mailbag series on his website today, and gave fans an update on what the team is working on in Camp Cal. “The biggest thing is defensive rebound, physical play, offensive execution, motors, competitiveness, all that stuff has to continue to grow. That’s why I said I don’t really know how good we are right now,” Cal said. “Even in the practice we had today, it was all about ‘here are the areas’–defensive rebounding has to be better.”

He also talked about the unique platform UK players have to better people’s lives and how much better he’s feeling after his hip replacement. (Spoiler alert: a lot.)

One of the best things about this year is that rival fans think we’re overrated (until we beat them), they say we can’t play offense. They say the team lost x games last year and lost Randle and Young, etc. What they fail to realize is what we all know and our sitting on the edges of our couches waiting for: This team is not at its potential yet. Most of Cal’s teams take all year to get really in sync because of all the youth, but we all agree this team has only shown sparks of how good they can be on offense and has really only kept the foot on the defensive gas a couple times.

Even with the loss of Alex, we all keep looking at those rebound numbers, those turnovers, those poor plays by the twins and low scoring nights, and we just can’t help but imagine what we’re going to see in a couple months. We’re snakebit after last year taking so long to come together, so we’re most of us not even pushing the 40-0 discussion. The fact that so many people are and we fans who watch every game are still waiting for the team to play a complete game should TERRIFY anyone who thinks their team has a shot at the title.
