Calipari regrets the decision to skip shootaround today

basketball-practice

John Calipari elected to not have a pregame shootaround prior to today’s game, as they normally do. If he could go back in time, he would’ve stuck with the routine and gotten his team together for a morning session.

“I decided not to have a shootaround today,” Calipari said after the game. “I’m not making an excuse. That was my choice. If I had to do it all over again, now that I’ve seen the result, I would’ve had a shootaround this morning. I just felt maybe they were mature enough to do this, and I’m learning about this team.”

It’s hard to say what effect the no-shootaround decision had on the team’s readiness, but one could assume it played a role in the slow start. Remember, Cal had to call a timeout one minute into the game because his team fell down two baskets early.

No more skipping shootaround, please.

Don’t know that it’s accurate to say we got off to a slow start. We took our biggest lead fairly early in the game, didn’t we?

I told my kids. I told’ em: Don’t worry about this game. This is on me. We gonna learn….from this. We will be better. There is no 40 & oh…. The road to the final 4 – or the whole thing – goes through this team.

I like ….I LOVE MY TEAM!

I love Cal – and loved watching him at Memphis. But sometimes he does some things I do not understand – skipping shoot around brought back memories of not watching film on Wisconsin.

Anyway, he is the coach and I am not. Still believe UK can win to last 6 so learn and move on.

NEVER, EVER, break routine when you’re on a winning streak. NEVER! While you’re losing, sure.Bad move.

Uh… yeah this is on Call. Children and athletes are creatures of habit. They haven’t played a game in 5 days AND you defer from a process that has led to a 7-0 record? If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it! I’ll gladly take a loss in December over a loss in March any day. We needed adversity to learn how to adapt and overcome, hopefully Cal’s screw up is a blessing in disguise.
