The big question on everyone’s mind right now is what will happen to the platoon system now that Alex Poythress is out; however, John Calipari told reporters that question has been the furthest thing from his mind since last night. “I just, I don’t know. I didn’t spend any time thinking ‘team’ last night and this morning,” Cal said when asked if the platoon system will continue. “We’ll figure it out. We haven’t practiced yet, I don’t really know.”

Cal said the team greeted Alex after his MRI, ate with him and they all watched a game together. “This is our team dealing with this together,” Cal said, telling reporters that the shock of the injury “zapped” him, his wife, and the players. “Guys cried. It was devastating. They know, in their own minds, ‘what if it was me?'”

yes, Alex Poythress is a great kid…he will recover…he will continue his career…he will graduate and has the opportunity to be whatever he chooses to be…I will pray for his recovery, but know that he will be stronger; the kid’s a hard worker…as for the season, I think the rest of the team just got refocused in a hurry…win it for #22…I want to see his teammates helping him up the ladder come March (and early April) to cut down a piece of that net…get better soon Alex

I hope Cal continues with the platoon. Hawkins and Willis won’t fill AlPo’s shoes but are certainly more than capable D1 college players…
