BTI’s Rants and Ramblings: SEC Power Rankings, Week 1

#14. South Carolina (7-8, 0-2, RPI: 96)
This Week: Lost at Florida by 16, Lost to LSU by 3
-With Georgia winning twice this week, the Gamecocks quickly ascend to the worst team in the league. Blown out early at Florida. Competitive against LSU but still a home loss.

#13. Vanderbilt (8-6, 0-2, RPI: 114)
This Week: Lost at Alabama by 5, Lost to Kentucky by 9
-With only 7 scholarship players, this team is a trainwreck.  Odom is a good player but can be neutralized by good teams.

#12. Auburn (8-5, 0-2, RPI: 165)
This Week: Lost at Ole Miss by 3, Lost to Missouri by 2
-Two tight games, two tight losses.  Auburn basketball everybody!

#11 Alabama (7-8, 1-1, RPI: 105)
This Week: Beat Vanderbilt by 5, Lost at Georgia by 8
I still think this team can be challenging, but they are not making me confident about that.

#10. Ole Miss (10-5, 1-1, RPI: 73)
This Week: Beat Auburn by 3, Lost at Mississippi State by 4
-Bad loss to the Bulldogs, even without Marshall Henderson. This team might still be a pest, but they are an NIT pest.

#9. Mississippi State (11-4, 1-1, RPI: 172)
This Week: Lost at Kentucky by 22, Beat Ole Miss by 4
-Biggest loss of conference play so far, but rebounded nicely vs Ole Miss. Still think this is 1 of 3 worst teams in the league at the end of the day.

#8. Arkansas (11-4, 0-2, RPI: 85)
This Week: Lost at Texas A&M by 16, Lost to Florida by 2 (2 OT)
-Disappointing surprise so far. Home against Kentucky Tuesday with chance at redemption.

#7. Georgia (8-6, 2-0, RPI: 190)
This Week: Won at Missouri by 6 (OT), Beat Alabama by 8
-Have to give Bulldogs credit. Win at Florida Tuesday and you can give Mark Fox COY right now.

#6. LSU (10-4, 1-1, RPI: 71)
This Week: Lost to Tennessee by 18, Won at South Carolina by 3
-Tennessee loss is very concerning but didn’t follow up with bad USC loss.  Shaky ranking right now.

#5. Tennessee (10-5, 1-1, RPI: 39)
This Week: Won at LSU by 18, Lost to Texas A&M by 1
-Followed up very impressive win with very unimpressive loss.  Jury still out but they hang on to Top 5 for now.

#4. Texas A&M (11-4, 2-0, RPI: 146)
This Week: Beat Arkansas by 16, Won at Tennessee by 1
-Probably had the best week in the league.  Hammered Arkansas and upset UT.  Winning with great defense.

#3. Missouri (13-2, 1-1, RPI: 56)
This Week: Lost to Georgia by 6 (OT), Won at Auburn by 2
-Hope the UGA loss was just a fluke, but should beat Auburn by more than 2. Might not be a Top 25 team.

#2. Kentucky (12-3, 2-0 RPI: 20)
This Week: Beat Mississippi State by 22, Won at Vanderbilt by 9
-Handled their buisness but some sluggish spurts still keep them behind the Gators.

#1. Florida (11-2, RPI: 12)
This Week: Beat South Carolina by 16, Won at Arkansas by 2 (OT)
-Gutsy win over Arkansas. Georgia and at Auburn seem to suggest easy week for Gators.

  1. This Team Needs Radar for Shooting

Every year we sign these great shooters. Great shooters don’t miss the rim completely even on a bad shooting night. Either this bunch is blind or they need radar for shooting the 3. We seriously miss everything at times, not just one, but several. Where do our great shooters go?

  2. Not to change the subject, BUT

Is the NFL turning into a league of punks? Is it just me or does anyone else find the players behavior a turn-off. All of this look at me, look at me, BS, and just trash behavior.

A&M is the biggest surprise so far. Not sure if they keep it up or not, but most thought they would be a bottom four team in the league.

AR lost in 2 OT, but FL won in one?
