Bryce Drew: When Kentucky shoots like that, “I don’t see anyone beating them”

Kentucky shot 55.6 percent from the field vs. Vanderbilt, their fourth best mark this season. From behind the arc, they were 10-17 for a season-best 58.8 percent. Vanderbilt coach Bryce Drew said that when the Cats are connecting like that, they could be unbeatable.

“Kentucky shot the ball sensational tonight,” Drew said. “When they’re shooting the ball that well, with their inside presence, they’re going to be really tough to beat by anyone in the country.”

The fact that Kentucky shot 58.8 percent from three on a night when Tyler Herro, who leads the team in three-point attempts, was 0-3 from the outside is doubly promising. A lot of that credit goes to PJ Washington, who hit all three of his threes, and Keldon Johnson, who hit three of four after going scoreless in the first half.

A week ago, Vanderbilt almost (should have) beat No. 1 Tennessee in this same gym. When asked, Drew said tonight’s blowout is probably a combination of his team still recovering from “devastating” loses to the Vols and South Carolina and the fact that Kentucky’s hitting its stride.

“Kentucky is playing really well. They might be playing as well as anyone. Maybe the best team in the country right now the way they’re playing. Again, if they shoot this way, good luck to the guys guarding them because I don’t see anyone beating them.”

Is Bryce drew on the hot seat? He should be. That performance was pitiful and he laid down at halftime. Just pitiful.
