On Wednesday Kentucky will travel to Auburn.  There’s a lot on the line against the SEC’s top team.  A secondary storyline is Tony Barbee’s return to Auburn.

Prior to joining John Calipari’s staff at Kentucky, Barbee spent four years as the Tigers’ head coach.  While meeting with the media, head coach Bruce Pearl asked fans to be respectful when Barbee returns Auburn Arena.

“I would like to reach out to all of our fans, our students and our fans right now in preparation for that.  I know what it’s like…in coaching, for better or worse, you give your heart and soul.  For better or worse, you give everything you have.

“I would think it would only be fitting and fitting with Auburn to be classy. He was our basketball coach for four years. He moved his family here. He was a part of this family. And I would, rather than have it be anything other than welcome him back to where his family spent four years. It should be nothing else. I would even ask the Jungle and the leadership… I may even Tweet that out. Because nothing else would be appropriate.

“I want great spirit, I want a great attitude. I want to get after Kentucky really, really hard. But that other stuff… I would be disappointed if we went there.”

Stay classy, Auburn.

Pearl told them , “Be cool – because, my career can’t afford anymore BarbeeQ’s”.

At least Barbee didn’t put them on probation like Bruce has. They are good this year but Auburn has no future. Pearl will be fired in the offseason.

I highly doubt more than 5 Auburn fans could even name their last head coach.

Also, this seems like it will likely have an opposite effect, which very well may be intentional.

When you’re lashing out at a coach’s career, take a long hard look at yours. Probation both schools he’s been and vacated wins!!!

      Yes, very true.

And it says all you need to know about Auburn fans that Pearl thinks this even needs to be said publicly. Decent people know such things without being told.

Classy move by Pearl with his instructions to Auburn fans. I hope our fans return the favor and stay away from chants pertaining to the FBI allegations.
