Bruce Pearl lands his 2nd 4-star commitment this week as his show clause ends

It may not seem like ground breaking news, but Bruce Pearl’s NCAA-sanctioned “show clause” penalty ended at midnight. At 12:01 a.m., Pearl immediately got to work by contacting Findlay Prep’s Horace Spencer, a 6-8 power forward and Top 100 prospect in the 2015 class. Within hours, Spencer had already committed to be an Auburn Tiger and play for Bruce Pearl.

Four-star commit Horace Spencer joins another 4-star guard in Danjel Purifoy, who also committed to Auburn in the last 3 days. Without any restrictions left to work through, Pearl seems to have things rolling in the right direction at Auburn. Within the next 2-3 years, I think it’s safe to assume that Pearl might have Auburn back into the top echelon of the SEC.

Bruce Pearl is good for the SEC. Wish he was still at UT but I’ll take Auburn

Pearl has not been that big a success in the SEC, even with the advantage he had at UT. This Auburn job will be even less so. Sure he is colorful and says a lot of crap but as a coach not all that everyone thinks he is. He will screw up again just a matter of time.

What would you describe as successful? I won’t bother with a list of accomplishments at UT but suffice it to say I think you’re wearing Big Blue tinted glasses when you describe Pearl as not that successful in the conference. I wish the league had three or four more Pearls (minus the cheating/lying). It sure as crap would make the league more entertaining.

Pearl reminds me of that youthful energy RP had at UK in the early 90’s. Auburn hired their way to contention with now the 3d best coach in the SEC. 1. Calipari, 2. Billy D, 3. Bruce. UT should have fought to keep him IMO.

Pearl was 4-9 against UK in his six years, including 1-3 against Gillispie and 1-4 against Cal. The only reason he was successful in the SEC was because we were so far down during Tubby’s last two years and the two under Gillispie.

It’s amazing how he landed two players when he wasn’t able to make contact with them, didn’t anyone else catch that. I think he’s a good coach, not great and he recruits very well. Players like him because he only takes an interest in what they’re doing while on the court, off the court anything goes. But please tell me about the man crush Matt Jones has with this guy and with Shaka Smart. Smart had one lucky year and every time they talk of Cal leaving UK Jones always says Smart is one of 3-4 that should get the job. Lets hope Matt Jones sticks to inflating his oversize ego on the radio and never has anything to do with BB decisions at UK.

An SEC regular season championship, a number one ranking for the first time in 40 years, four Sweet Sixteen appearances and the first Elite Eight appearance in the school’s history but yeah you guys are probably right. He’s not that good of a coach. Again, I’m not sure what constitutes successful to some posters. Take off the big blue tinted glasses long enough to set aside your distaste for Pearl and be objective about his resume. As a UK fan in this conversation you sound like an Alabama fan saying Mark Richt hasn’t been that successful. The man is talented and was successful at UT and only someone working from a personal bias or ignorance can argue the point.

That’d be “show cause,” not “show clause.” “Show cause” gives a school the opportunity to argue that a penalty that they would otherwise assume by virtue of hiring penalized coach shouldn’t apply. “Show clause” is meaningless.

Agree, but it’s a new world in college basketball and has been for at least five years now. We won’t know who’s going to be here until we hear who’s not after April 2015.

Where do people get that Bruce Pearl is such a good coach? He coached at Indiana State University against Ray Harper at Ky.Wesleyan and Harper owned him. Ray Harper is twice the coach Pearl is. Check the stats on both of them.

I’m going to wager TheRealHambone is 100% correct. If Crean continues his mediocrity, Pearl is back home in Indiana in two years, and returning IU to championship form.

Returning IU to championship form? Maybe for a year or two until he gets hit with some NCAA sanctions again.
