BREAKING: Sean Miller fired at Arizona

Sean Miller is OUT at Arizona.

According to Stadium’s Jeff Goodman, Arizona has decided to part ways with the veteran head coach with just one year remaining on his contract, a move that comes after Miller and the school were charged with nine total NCAA violations and five Level I violations back in October.

Among the violations? Head coach responsibility for failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance and a lack of head coach control.

Back in 2017, former Arizona assistant coach Emanuel “Book” Richardson was one of ten people arrested during the FBI’s investigation into college basketball after he was accused of (and later plead guilty to) accepting $20,000 in bribes from business-manager-turned-agent Christian Dawkins. He also admitted to  helping athletes with financial needs once they arrived on campus.

As for Miller, ESPN reported back in 2018 that the now-former Arizona coach was heard on an FBI wiretap discussing a $100,000 payment to former top recruit Deandre Ayton, who ultimately signed with the Wildcats and was drafted No. 1 overall by the Phoenix Suns in 2018.

Miller’s time at Arizona comes to a close after 12 years with the program, coaching from 2009-2021 and earning Pac-12 Coach of the Year honors in 2011, 2014 and 2017. The Wildcats won Pac-12 Tournament championships in 2015, 2017 and 2018 under Miller’s watch.

Prior to his stint at Arizona, Miller coached at Xavier from 2004-2009.

The only reason they fired him now is because the team wasn’t winning. Plain and simple. If he was winning it would be a Kansas and LSU situation.

After how many years of knowing what he had done? Kansas? They gave Self a lifetime contract. Will Wade? Still going. NC? Well, they are in a league all to themselves.

Ha ha, I remember that picture; Ashley probably gargled for two hours, and drank a half-pint of Bourbon.

Rough month to be a coach in the Miller family. Hope they didn’t blow through those stimulus checks.

Cue defenses of “they cleaned house and deserve leniency” (actually fired Miller for sucking–see Kansas keeping Self), and Vitale and others crying about the poor current players not deserving to be punished (as if they didn’t commit/decide to stay knowing full well that penalties are coming).

I doubt that Miller ever stopped paying and just did it more carefully, but the stars with their hands out shied away from the program, so he has not done so well.

Damn, hoping Miller and Lil Brother would keep their jobs indefinitely.

Tough time for the Miller family. At least Arch will get a buyout.
