Bracketology: Kentucky holding steady as a five-seed

With one week left in the regular season, Kentucky is projected to be a five-seed in the NCAA Tournament. Joe Lunardi has the Cats in the Midwest Region in his latest Bracketology, playing 12-seed Loyola-Chicago in Boise, Idaho:

Aside from the dreaded 5/12 curse, I don’t mind that draw one bit. Lunardi has eight SEC teams in right now, with Mississippi State knocking on the door in the First Four Out:

  • Auburn (3)
  • Tennessee (3)
  • Kentucky (5)
  • Florida (6)
  • Texas A&M (7)
  • Arkansas (8)
  • Alabama (9)
  • Missouri (9)

CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm also has Kentucky as a five-seed in Boise, while BracketWag’s Shelby Mast bumped them up to a four-seed playing in Boston.

So…what’s Boise like in mid-March?

Not sure how you have Florida in the lower half of the bracket and Arkansas in the top half with UK. Didn’t think that could happen unless 9 SEC teams were in the Dance. Eight or fewer, I didn’t think conference team could meet until th regional finals. With 8 teams, shouldn’t there be a SEC team in the upper & lower bracket of all four regions?

Boise is a great city… not sure about the weather in March though.

How does Texas Tech draw the Boise sub-regional?

I’d love to play them. The big 12 is a joke.

With that bracket, the only team keeping the Cats from advancing would be the Cats.

The Texas Tech game worries me more than the potential match up against Michigan State. I wonder if Izzo will be coaching in March?

TT is overrated just like the Big 12. I’d love to play Kansas again too. Vanderbilt would eat them up. We’d overwhelm KU and Tech with size.

I find these brackets rather silly. When the bracket comes out AFTER Selection Sunday, lets talk!!

I dont see any way that they would have that many sec teams in one bracket with chance to play each other possibly playing 2 sec teams that’s just not good viewing for most fans I saw one bracket as a 5 seed in the west our first game against middle tn.

maybe to keep a conference from having 2 in a final 4 would be my guess but who knows

So when the rankings come out today we should be a top 20 team, right?

Entertaining what ifs, at this time. I think UK has a shot in this bracket to play a few games in the tournament.

As a UK fan living in Cincinnati I would love this draw. Beating XU in the Sweet 16 and sUCks in the Elite 8 would be epic.

We’d kill Cincinnati but there’s now way they will make it that far. We would smoke Tech. Xavier is pretty good, though. Would be a great game.

Please Please let this be what happens. You know NCAA Committee won’t let us get such any easy bracket!! Never Have

Ugh. Texas Tech was just last week an almost top 5 seed. They are underseeded. Damn that would be a team incould see us losing too.

I don’t think so. Tech hasn’t impressed me. They played a terrible non conference schedule and the big 12 is overrated like always.

The better question is why Mich St a 2 seed? They are AP 2nd in the country?!?!?!?

Why does anyone pay attention to this crap? This is joe lunardi’s garbage; he has no clue what the committee will do.

Texas barely beat a struggling south Carolina team. Granted they beat us but that was then. Go Cats.

Id pencil in UK beating loyola, but might need to erase it. They could easily be the 5 the 12 takes down.

UK has never lost in the first round under Calipari. Duke sure has choked a lot, though. Oh, and so much for us being an unranked bubble team! Lol. We are going to end up as a 3 or 4 seed and are now one of the favorites to win it all in Vegas.

And that sorry ass Miami team would get smoked by the Arkansas team we just rolled. How things have changed in the last week! I told you Miami was garbage and UK is moving up. I’d love to play duke in the final four but duke will probably be out before the second weekend per usual.
