BRACKETOLOGY: Kentucky a three-seed in all projections

With just over two weeks until Selection Sunday, Kentucky is now a three-seed in all of the major NCAA Tournament projections.

That’s right, even Joe Lunardi has the Cats as a three-seed in his latest Bracketology, playing in a loaded Midwest Region.

Lunardi’s ESPN colleague Keith Lipscomb argues that Kentucky can still move up to a two-seed before all is said and done, which historically, increases their chances of winning it all.

As a 2-seed, the good news is [John Calipari’s] teams have made the Sweet 16 each of the past five times, and reached the Elite Eight four of the past five times. The bad news may be hard to believe, but he has never made the Final Four as a 2-seed. Still, rather consistent, right?

In his three trips as a 4-seed or 5-seed, it’s been a mixed bag, as you might expect with slightly less talented teams. As a No. 4, Calipari’s Wildcats were eliminated in the second round in 2016 and made the Final Four in 2011. In his only appearance as a No. 5 seed in 2018, also at Kentucky, the run ended in the Sweet 16.

Over at CBS Sports, Jerry Palm has Kentucky as the three-seed in the West Region, playing opening round games in Cleveland.

Shelby Mast of BracketWag.com also has the Cats in the West playing opening round games in Cleveland:

A win against Auburn tomorrow would certainly help.

Best case scenario would be the last 2 seed slotted with SDSU or the Zags as our one seed. Baylor and Kansas hopefully would end up in the same side of the brackets facing off in the final four.

Creighton a 2??? Really? Bullshit. We should be the 2 in that region and Creighton maybe the 3.

Why do I think of Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston every time I see that photo of Sestina and Montgomery? lol

There’s a famous photo of Ali standing over Liston after knocking him down, that looks eerily similar to this. That could be why. The brain works in mysterious ways…

I know why, actually. 😉 Just wondering if anyone else had noticed that.

I know LSU is down right now but I think they can give Kansas a run for their money

Ironically when we were a #4 seed we had better paths to the final four.
