Good morning, friends, and happy Monday to you. I’m coming off an awesome weekend in Kentucky, which means we all have something in common. For years, my friends from Nashville and I have been talking about doing a bourbon trail trip, and this past weekend, we finally did it. Shoutout to Dixon Dedman at Beaumont Inn in Harrodsburg for the hospitality and a bourbon tasting to remember. I can’t do it justice in this small space right now, so I’ll recap it fully tomorrow night.
Before then, we have plenty to cover. With football inching closer and closer, there’s a lot going on this week, so let’s review the agenda.
When will we hear the QB announcement?
Last week, Mark Stoops and Shannon Dawson hinted that the decision on the starting quarterback would come on Saturday, yet when Saturday’s scrimmage ended, Stoops praised both Patrick Towles and Drew Barker and said he wanted to review the film before making an announcement. Odds are the job is Patrick’s, and we may hear that as soon as this morning. Stoops talks to the media after practice around 11 a.m., so stay tuned.
The rest of the SEC has an eye on Kentucky
Nashville’s a melting pot of fans of different teams, and within my friend group, we’ve got a few Tennessee fans (yes, I know, shame on me!), Vandy fans, Mississippi State fans, Auburn fans, Ohio State fans, and even some Florida State fans who were a bit bitter when Stoops left Tallahassee for Lexington. As football approaches, it’s been interesting to hear them ask me about the Cats. Considering UK football’s skid in the past decade, I’m not used to the Cats coming up in college football conversations, or, when they do, it’s laced with pity, but this year is different. Many of my friends are actually interested in my thoughts on what direction the program is going and have told me they think this is the year UK goes bowling. While the schedule is daunting and the long-suffering UK football fan mentality is “I’ll believe it when I see it,” it is kind of nice to hear optimism for our program from other fan bases. One might call it refreshing.

Hopefully we’ll hear what the heck is happening with Jamal Murray
As the summer has gone on, Jamal Murray has morphed from the mysterious recruit to the even more mysterious signee. Murray is currently participating in the Canadian Men’s National Team training camp, and a report came out yesterday that the Team Canada staff is doing everything they can to make sure he is able to play in the FIBA Americas Championship in early September. General Manager Steve Nash is reportedly working with Calipari to ensure they can have Murray on the team even though there’s a firm date Murray has to be on campus. The training camp ends on Thursday, so hopefully we’ll get another update soon.
Calipari offered to pay for his former players to attend his Hall of Fame induction
I’ve been away from the computer all weekend, so apologies if this has already been shared. According to Jeff Goodman, John Calipari offered to pay for any of his ex-players at UK, Memphis, and Massachusetts to attend his Hall of Fame induction next month in Springfield, Massachusetts. Pretty awesome, right?
Speaking of Cal, his daughter Erin posted what I’m sure is a familiar scene on Instagram last night
If I didn’t love cell phones so much, I’d hate them.
KSR is back in studio after a long summer tour
After a summer of sleeping in hotel rooms, I have a feeling that Sleep Outfitters ad will be particularly great this morning.
