Boogie is Officially in the Rafters…of His High School

IMG_20130906_162241

Before spending the weekend at his home away-from-home in Lexington, DeMarcus Cousins went to his actual home in Mobile, AL where he was honored by his alma mater-LeFlore High School. DeMarcus’ jersey was retired earlier today at a ceremony in the school’s gym where he led his team to back-to-back state semi-finals while averaging 24.1 points, 13.2 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 3.2 blocks and 5.1 steals per game his senior season. The rest is a history you’re very familiar with (insert, “Mr. President this is DeMarcus Cousins”).

Any chance we see #15 in Rupp’s Rafters one day?

Ha. I love Demarcus, but no chance we see his jersey in Rupp’s Rafters.

Agreed…..I love me some Boogie too, but there will be no one-and-done players in those rafters……..at least I don’t think there will be………perhaps as National POY Davis should be considered……..

Davis should be the only one and done considered because he won every major award and a national championship. That being said, I would like to see some 96 and 98 guys go in first as well as Prince and Bogans. I would also make the argument for Darius Miller in a symbolic way sort of like the Unforgettables.

Davis gets my stamp of approval! I’d say if you win POY and a national title in one season you are an exception to any one and done stipulation.

    Congratulations Boogie!!!

P.S. I know your inclusion of “boogie in the rafters” was just something cute
to end the article with, but doing so took the intended focus off the article.

No chance…but that’s appropriate since he only spent one season with us…

Y’all are jumping the gun. We gotta get #9 in the rafters before we worry about #10; much less #15. I mean I’m as optimistic as the next guy but come on. Oh yeah, congrats to Big Cuz.

Retiring a jersey who lead his team to back-to-back state semi-finals….Wow…..

Isn’t that like getting rings for reaching the Sweet 16?

    🙂
