Billy Preston Leaves Kansas to Sign with Bosnian Professional Team

John Sleazer | Kansas City Star

Billy Preston’s mysterious car has taken him to Bosnia.

The former five-star McDonald’s All-American power forward never played a minute for the Kansas Jayhawks.  Suspended at the start of the season for missing curfew and class, just before tip-off against Kentucky in the Champions Classic, Bill Self released an odd statement.

The administration never found a clear enough financial picture for Preston to play at Kansas.  The Jayhawks’ top-ranked recruit signed to play with BC Igokea in Bosnia.

Preston joins a long list of highly-touted Jayhawks — Josh Selby, Cliff Alexander, Carlton Bragg and more — that failed to meet expectations.  Bill Self sure knows how to pick ’em.

Any and all investigations will now end and no one will ever look to see if any boosters or Jayhawk staff were involved. If pressed, there’ll be speculation an agent or someone dealt with him directly and the team/school had no idea, acting quickly to suspend him when they learned. Just like how no one at UNC noticed players driving sports cars.

I guess that means “Nothin’ from Nothin’ Leaves Nothin'”. Let’s see how many of our younger fans get that one. 🙂

So how many times in the last 5 years has Kansas had a player getting impermissible benefits? Four? At some point shouldn’t the program pay the consequences? Oh, I forgot, it’s the NCAA we are talking about.

Anyone that saw him on the bench during the UK game knew the kid had taken money. Wearing gold chains, gold glasses, gold earrings, a designer shirt with gold sparklies instead of a kansas shirt. Then, a few minutes later he was in kansas warm up, as if someone from KU saw him and and thought WTF, make a call and cover him up. Not playing him just covered KU using an ineligible player, so no harm done, right? Riiiight. Adidas schools….

This is one of the players that really wanted to come to UK but Cal passed on him. For all you that question whether Cal knows what he is do or not.

In the one-and-done world, Bill Self is usually left dumpster diving for Cal’s and K’s rejects.

I’m gonna knock on wood as I say this, but one thing that has held true with Calipari his entire tenure is that there has not been one iota of off-the-court malarkey with the players he has gotten to come to Kentucky. As highly-respected as Tubby was, he had far more issues than Cal has had. It speaks volumes to Cal and staff’s ability to identify top players, but also top players that will do the right things.

I would agree, albeit with a caveat for Bledsoe, whose situation I think we can admit was a little odd. But yes otherwise I agree with your point.

Just saw a post on a Kansas board speculating that Preston’s departure might indicate Zion will pick them tonight ?

Billy Preston’s mother, Nicole Player, also went on attack of KU and hasn’t been shy to state her opinion about how they have (mis)treated her son.
