Billy Gillispie kicked John Wall out of practice on recruiting visit

There’s an old UK basketball tale that claims Billy Gillispie once kicked John Wall out of a practice over a ringing cell phone on Wall’s visit to Kentucky. Though incredibly hard to believe, we now have confirmation that it did indeed happen, according to Wall himself.
Wall was a guest on Tuesday night’s Hey Kentucky and Matt Jones asked him to confirm or deny the old rumor that says he was told to leave the facility when his cell phone rang during a UK practice. The former Wildcat simply said, “Yeah that’s true,” with a smile.
When asked what he thought when that happened, Wall told the show, “I would never play for this man.”
Luckily, a man named John Calipari came in months later to replace Gillispie and he convinced Wall to go to Kentucky.
Hear more from Wall in his Hey Kentucky interview:
You can watch the entire show, which includes me saying the phrase “If it’s yellow, let it mellow, if it’s brown, flush it down,” after the jump.

Can we please do something about Matt’s haircut? The man looks like he just walked out of a SuperCuts in 1992.
Whatchugot against Supercuts? 🙂
But seriously, I figure a true metrosexual like Matt gets his hair done at a salon somewhere. :p
Still hard to believe how bad that hire was. As much as I would like to blame Barnhart, many at the time thought BCG would be a great fit at Kentucky.
After the total flop of two nights ago, “Hey, Kentucky!” actually rebounded pretty nicely last night. It did this in two ways. First, it made UK sports the meat of the episode instead of just a quick appetizer at the beginning, like on Monday. Second, it almost entirely avoided Matt’s tired political beliefs. Maybe somebody explained to Matt that condescension is a poor affectation when about half your audience is smarter than you.
Matt’s political views are like McDonald’s pizza in the 90’s…this is not what we want from here.
half of kentucky went to dook law school??? i thought we were ranked pretty low in the nation in education
