Bill Walton is loco and I like it

We’ve known for a while that Bill Walton is a little…shall we say, eccentric? Last night, Walton did his best to entertain viewers during an otherwise boring Cal/Oregon blowout, borrowing a glockenspiel from a fan behind him, much to the chagrin of his partner Dave Pasch:

Dave got even more annoyed when Walton also borrowed the fan’s bear hat:

Screen Shot 2016-02-12 at 8.42.51 AM

Bill: “That’s not a bear, that’s a beaver. That’s a beaver.”

Dave: “That’s a bear, Bill. They’re the Cal Bears. The Bears.”

Bill: “It’s a little tiny bear!”

Dave: “Alright, can we stop interviewing the glockenspiel guy and focus on the game, please?”

He is talking loco and I like it. What do we have to do to get Walton to cover a UK game?

There are color commentators…and then there is Bill Walton…

He is an American treasure. Only reason to watch PAC basketball and Pasch is the perfect partner for him, like the nephew that can’t control him. Would love form to be in the SEC or even B1G so you wouldn’t have to listen to IU cheerleader Dakich.

Anyone who wants Bill Walton to do a UK game must not know Mr. Walton very well or needs to make sure to get back on their daily meds.

He is so pro Pac-10 (12 errh – 13 – whatever it is these days) – uses the term “Conference of Champions at least every 5 minutes – and has a fully activated anti-SEC/Kentucky gene.

It would be a disaster. He makes Dan Dakismo of Big 10 fame look moderate and logical. Please don’t bring Bill Walton into the UK universe!

I don’t want Walton for any UK games but he is the most entertaining announcer for any other games.

I agree with you on the point about Walton’s slavish broken-record praise about the Pac-12 and UCLA……”the conference of champions”……….”UCLA, Always and forever champions!” The man can honestly not go for more than one TV timeout without throwing one of those in there. Talk about living in the past! I think it might be the result of his relationship with Mary Jane. The last UCLA team to actually contend for a title was eliminated by……an SEC team. Other than this foolishness, I actually like Walton and find his commentary entertaining. But I think ESPN is too smart to overlook the fact that the guy has very limited range in college BB, and is really only relevant in the PAC-12 sphere….and relevant only because his era is about the only thing still relevant about the PAC-12…that may be changing, but we’ll see.

Walton was great with Steve ‘Snapper’ Jones in the NBA playoffs back in the 90s. Caught him on a few Sac Kings game and he’s always entertaining. Love that he mentions the Dead every chance he gets.

Bill is the man! But i think the Grateful Dead playing rupp in 77’/78′ is the only reason bill would be in lexington 🙁

You would think being a basketball player at UCLA in its heyday would have taught him how to tell the difference between a beaver and a bear, though.

No, no and no. This guy is an absolute idiot. He wants to make the whole game about him.

Bill Walton is not an idiot…he was smart enough to protest the Vietnam War and I have respected him ever since…what a long strange trip it’s been.

Walton during a similar lull last year named his all time SEC team – and there was not ONE UK player on it. Ask him if you see him how much car dealer money he was bribed with to attend UCLA. Jabbar has talked quite openly about all the bribes.
