Good morning, friends. Happy weekend to you. You guys may have a lot of glamorous plans today and tomorrow, but not me. After a very busy month, I’m looking forward to settling back into my weekend routine of Crossfit, Trader Joe’s, movie, Five Points Pizza, beer, nap, and grilling. Also yardwork because ours looks terrible.
In between all of that, there’s a lot going on this weekend. Come along and let me show you…
Yahtzee watch continues
UK’s Friday Night Blue Lights camp wrapped up yesterday with one commitment: Minnesota transfer LB De’Niro Laster. JuCo OL Tate Leavitt, DT Kobe Smith, and DT Walvenski Aime are some of the major targets still on commitment watch, along with LB Jamar “Boogie” Watson, who visits today. All indications are we could hear a few more Yahtzees before the weekend’s over, so stay tuned.
More basketball recruiting!
The second July evaluation period rolls on, with two big events wrapping up:
Under Armour Finals, Atlanta
Prospects: Josh Jackson, Markelle Fultz and Sacha Killeya-Jones
Nike Global Challenge, Chicago
Prospects: Malik Monk, Miles Bridges and Marques Bolden
Prediction: more recruiting writers will have more quotes from each player about how much Calipari wants them.
Jamal Murray finds out if he’s on the Canadian National Team
At some point today, Jamal Murray will find out if he made the twelve-man roster for the Canadian National Team, which will play in the Pan Am Games, which begin next week in Toronto. NBA players Anthony Bennett, Andrew Nicholson, and Baylor University alum Brady Heslip are among those who tried out, and Murray’s chances of making the roster are pretty high. If he does, he and the rest of Team Canada will meet a familiar foe on Tuesday: the Dominican Republic National Team, coached by Orlando Antigua. The game will be streamed on CBCSports.ca at 6 p.m. Tuesday night.
Matt, Drew, and Tomlin cover the Phoenix
After watching Willie Cauley-Stein, DeAndre Liggins, Julius Randle, Karl Towns, and Trey Lyles play in the consolation rounds of the Summer League yesterday, Matt, Drew, and Tomlin will turn their sights on the Phoenix Suns, who play the Chicago Bulls in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m. PT.
Devin Booker, Archie Goodwin, and Jorts are all on the Suns, so get ready for more coverage from Vegas. Coverage meaning game updates, Periscopes, and snaps, probably more of latter since it’s Vegas and not as many Cats advanced as we’d hoped. Did I mention it’s Vegas?
If things go well, I see “Trainwreck”
I’m automatically suspicious of any movie that guest stars LeBron James, but I love Amy Schumer and Bill Hader so much I’ll give “Trainwreck” a chance. Schumer’s rise has been fun to follow the past several months because she’s not your typical female lead, an anomaly the public seems to be embracing more and more. Plus, she’s downright hilarious. I love her show and her stand-up and can’t wait to see what she does with a major role.
This boy will still probably refuse to wear a St. Louis Cardinals jersey because…
Someone sent me this video yesterday of a little boy refusing to put on a St. Louis Cardinals jersey because he was afraid someone might think he’s a Louisville fan. The story gets even better when you find out the boy is the cousin of Corey Littrell, a former UK pitcher who plays in the Cardinals organization. This kid wins the day, as far as I’m concerned.
