I agree with you CATS #9…

      What I find confusing is:

a). Our CATS just lost a very tough, overtime, battle, to Arkansas down in Bud Walton Arena
b). Our CATS are still trying to grow, mature, and develop in to an NCAA Championship Team
c). Our CATS need our support and attention

So WHY is this subject about Indiana and Wisconsin EVEN an issue on this site, or with Matt Jones, or with BBN?

We play “My Old Kentucky Home” at our games…
We can seat 24,000 in our arena…
      We have NCAA Championship Cheerleaders…
We have 8 National Championship Banners hanging from our rafters…
We have the greatest freshman recruiting class ever in College Basketball…
We have the best FAN BASE of all College Sports…
      WE ARE COLLEGE BASKETBALL….

      INDIANA…. is NONE of these!

So who cares what Indiana does or says??? Who cares… and WHY should UK / BBN / WE care?

Surely, we (BBN) have more important, and pertinent topics to worry about and discuss than what INDIANA does? SURELY!

      On….On….U OF K!

It wasn’t like the entire arena rushed the court. It was just the student section, a bunch of drunk college kids. I guarantee it would happen more often if other schools let their student sections be right on the floor. Was I a fan of it? No. Would I have rushed the court? No way. I wouldn’t even have done it against UK a few years ago.

Indiana has such a high out of state enrollment now, and Indiana has been so dormant for 20 years now that I guarantee most of those kids have no idea about Indiana tradition. All they know is there are 5 dusty banners on the wall. Who cares, bunch of dumb kids. Plus a coach that claps a lot. Maybe some day we’ll get it back together.

Didn’t Kentucky fans rush the field after a game vs Tennessee not too long ago? Seems your “state” has a double standard, friend Jones.

Great point, I think we should all compare the Indiana basketball program to the Kentucky football program.

Could. But didn’t. And that’s the problem. An ethical problem. When you use someone else’s stuff to build your own content, how hard is it note a credit? To give a little nod? It’s a matter of character.

    Sad really.

A once storied program has been relegated to this. It is one thing to “storm the court” and try to start fights with the opposing team when the opponent is no.1 ranked UK. Quite another when you just beat who? Wisconsin?……..C’Mon Man?

    Sad, just sad.

    • KG
      1:55 pm January 15, 2014 Permalink

you have to realize that Wisconsin had beaten them 13 straight times.

Well if Indiana basketball is on the same level as Kentucky Football its ok to rush the court, but they claim to be a blue blood in college basketball. Blue blood programs don’t rush the court after a win no matter the opponent.

  8. StorminNorman
    1:52 pm January 15, 2014 Permalink

I think it’s embarrassing when any team that has banners storms the court. Unless it’s a Cinderella team then stay in your seats. But Big 10 basketball sucks

  9. MattPaulus
    1:52 pm January 15, 2014 Permalink

I think the standards we are talking about is from that of a blue blood basketball program. IU is clearly a top 10 and possibly top 5 basketball program. They need to act like it.

Would Alabama football fans ever rush the field? No, but I wouldn’t blame their fans from doing the same at a basketball game.

Call it a double standard if you like but more like knowing and respecting your school’a tradition in each sport and acting accordingly.

  10. CatsFanFrankfort
    1:54 pm January 15, 2014 Permalink

Agreed. I dont care if we were unranked and beat undefeated, No. 1 Duke in Rupp after 10 straight years of Duke winning the NCAA championship (a terrible, terrible nightmare of a scenario, I know!). We dont rush the court. Ever.

  12. Beavis

Safety of the opposing players and coaches is the issue. ( look at what happened to one of the Harrisons after last nights game ) Have security as long as the opposing team is still on the court and after they leave if the IU or Arkansas fans want to tear up the court,,,,go right ahead. Hell,,,tear down the building after we leave if you wish.

By storming the court, fans are implying that they did not expect to win the game going into it. Storied college basketball programs expect to win every game, especially on their home court.

Thank you! How are we the only state that gets this? Here’s the discussion link, some people are bashing KY saying we are bitter that IU rushed on us 2 years ago. Hardly the reason.

Hey, I was screaming DO NOT RUSH THE COURT! when the game ended last night. I agree that IU fans need to act like we’ve been there before. I cringe every time they do it. I’m an old school Hoosier and remember they days of old under Knight. I took issue with Matt’s post about UK somehow having any better standards!

Also, IU is unranked and just beat the #3 team in the country in Wisky. They’d won their first 16 games of the season and have OWNED Indiana since 2008. OWNED is probably an understatement. Again, I dont think you EVER rush the court, but that was a big win, and the first decent win in awhile.

Do you think the culture of celebrating every minor success Crean has started is actually holding back Indiana from getting back to an elite level? Cutting down nets last year after lossing at home should’ve been embarressing, but do you think Crean needs to look at the bigger picture more often?

    • Biglaw Dawgin'
      2:35 pm January 15, 2014 Permalink

You can’t say you don’t condone their behavior and then try to justify rushing the court. Who cares if they’re ranked #3 right now? You were ranked #24 to begin the season, Wisconsin was ranked #21. Wisconsin was only favored to win by 4 points. You’ve got 5 National Championships, Wisconsin has none. You’re supposedly a blue-blood basketball powerhouse, Wisconsin is a football school. Rushing the court is an “Oh-my-God I can’t believe we pulled that off” type of moment. Beating Wis at home hardly counts. I’m glad that you realize that they should’ve acted like they’ve been there before, but don’t try to justify it. This was not one of those situations.

IU is a joke. I thought they would be a power house by now after Crean brought them back. Maybe they will get that sweet 16 banner this year.

Still love the fact we ruined their precious season during our National Championship run.

We have absolutely no class or understand what it is like to be at the top anymore. We hang banners, rush courts, and buy rings for just about any occasion! That’s what happens when you hire Dwight Schrute. We are Schrutians through and through!

  18. redandyz

AND…….I heard a good one earlier at the watercooler… that UK fans would do the same thing if students actually went to the games. It is hard to get the 35-55 age demographic to rush out of their seats too quickly! AND, they have to get home in time to catch the 10 o’clock news.

    Bazinga.

Again, I dont condone the behavior, but I did approve this message.

Good try. When you compared IU basketball to UK football that’s all we need to know. On a side note, you’re being friendly with the 35-55 demographic, it’s actually 65-100.

IU should continue to rush the court…..Creepy has never experienced a championship…he wouldn’t know how to act..

And, yes, believe in ESPN as they are the just trying to add fuel to the fire with that bogus poll.

  21. M
    2:38 pm January 15, 2014 Permalink

I guess if you’re program is down in the dumps, and you are a mediocre team playing a top team it’s ok to storm the court. So if UK is ever mediocre for a pretty long period of time, and beats a top team at home, I think storming the court is fine. Although I would never do it. The tricky thing here is Clappy is trying to make IU appear relevant. If they were truly back they wouldn’t still be storming the court. I can understand why they stormed the court against UK, because they weren’t close to being the best team in their state this century, and were terrible for years before that game. However, still doing it, after all of the banner hanging and ring ceremonies, doesn’t seem right.

At 55 and being a fan of UK since 1966 (watched my first game with my dad) I’ve seen the highest and lowest a college team can have. I hope I never see UK basketball get to the level that we rush the court no matter who we beat, what they’re ranked and how long it’s been since we were a team to fear year in year out. The only break you can give them is only one team can really say “We are college basketball”.

I do not see a problem with fans rushing the court or field. Is this not the United States of America? I would think showing passion and excitement is a wonderful thing to do. Too many people sitting on their hands with their mouths shut, ho hum we won another one. Let us go home and have our warm milk and cookies and go to bed, ho hum.

    • M
      3:23 pm January 15, 2014 Permalink

You’re right. Let’s rush the court after every win. You can’t show passion and excitement in the stands and then after the win you leave. You can only show passion by storming the court. So let’s do it. Every single time.

Can’t agree. They were once a great bball power but it’s been so long and the fans are anxious and hungry. A big win over an undefeated team caused them to erupt like winning the NCAA tournament. Imagine a 30 year drought in Lexington. They are hungry up here. We would be too.
