Ashton Hagans ranked No. 2 point guard in class of 2018, No. 12 overall

Ashton Hagans just got to Lexington today, but the recruiting services have already begun readjusting the official class of 2018 rankings.

247 Sports released their final list, and Hagans came in as the No. 2 point guard in the nation and No. 12 overall. The only point guard ahead? Vanderbilt’s Darius Garland.

EJ Montgomery leads the Cats at No. 6 overall, followed by Hagans at No. 12, Keldon Johnson at No. 18, Immanuel Quickley at No. 19, and Tyler Herro at No. 38.

Unfortunately for Kentucky, they sit just shy of Duke for the No. 1 spot in the team rankings, with the Blue Devils leading the Cats 71.06 to 70.29. The average player rating for each team comes in at 99.63 for Duke and 99.37 for Kentucky.

If star transfer Reid Travis joins, however, he wouldn’t count toward the final team rankings, but there’s no doubt Kentucky would surpass Duke in overall talent.

On that note, we got to see the newest Wildcat show off his new haircut next to his father this afternoon at the Joe Craft Center.

And soon thereafter, Hagans was introduced as a Wildcat for the first time at camp this afternoon:

If Cal doesn’t go back to the platoon system, he’s got a lot of guards to find playing time for.

If we get Reid then we undoubtedly could platoon, but I think our 2015 was a very unselfish club, and those big stars like towns and Booker didn’t mind sharing those minutes. It’s not ideal I’ve read somewhere as far as a recruiting pitch, but honestly if it brings home banner #9 then who cares, that banner alone would make up for any issues recruits may have with the platooning. I for one would it, and it sure seems like it worked in 2015 (exception no banner ?) and could work again depending on our guys talent and maturity levels. Who knows GO CATS!

He doesn’t have a lot of guards, only 5. There will be many time that there will 3 on the floor. Johnson is considered a small forward/wing. There will be plenty of playing time for 5 guys in three spots.

Well unlike above, im glad he cut his hair. Brandon Knight did the same thing. It’s a sign of professionalism. That’s what Shai’s parents told him too.

Professionalism ? Cats are going to NBA to play a game. Not to Wall St or DC. About an image…. rather they look “Wild on the Street” than like a dookie preppy. He just one step away from a button up sweater now.
