Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins make the final roster for Team USA

Some great news to start your morning: both Anthony Davis AND DeMarcus Cousins have been named to Team USA’s final roster as the group heads to Spain for the FIBA World Cup. The announcement was made this morning, and despite some concern that Coach K was going to be a butthead and pick Mason Plumlee over Boogie, it looks like he wised up and put both big men on the roster. Who didn’t make the cut? Gordon Hayward, Kyle Korver, Damian Lillard, and Chandler Parsons.

Here’s the final roster:

DeMarcus seems pretty pleased about the news:

We deserve our reputation. Once again, we jump to crucify someone based on a RUMOR that ended up being false. Sometimes we really need to stop assuming everyone hates us. K had nothing but good things to say about Boogie the entire camp. One news outlet puts out a false RUMOR and BBN’s collective head explodes. Sometimes I hate our fanbase. K is 62-1 and we sit on our couches and claim he doesn’t know what he’s doing. SMH

Hey Jordan . . . maybe picking Plumlee over clearly more qualified players indicates that K did have a inkling to pick him, and/or that he didn’t trust that DM could make it through the entire trip and that he needed a backup. The fact that DM got picked doesn’t mean that the story was false or that we are a bad fan base for pointing out the obvious in that DM >>>>>>>> MP. Dismount your high horse or become an Indiana fan.

I agree with Jordan. Heads exploding in the BBN over the possibility of DMC being cut was crazy. Yes DMC should be on the team over Plumlee but the hue and cry on the Internet was a bit much. .bwdik

Plumlee taken over Parsons, Coach Krybaby had to make sure to put one DOOKIE on there even if he shouldn’t be.

Choosing Plumlee over Parsons is one major joke of a decision. Chandler Parsons is a great 3 point shooter and could have given Team USA, quality minutes playing the stretch 4. Having someone who can play that position is vital when it comes to defeating European Teams.

Plumlee actually makes two Dookies (Kyrie Irving), but more surprisingly, he picked THREE Coach Cal guys

Should not surprise anyone that Cal is well rep’d on this team. What other Dookie could qualify as a USA representative? JJ Reddick? Cousins would have loved that one!

Haha yeah but they were obvious choices. Irving over Wall was a joke though.

Big Congrats to Boogie and AD. They already make Kentucky proud, now they get to represent the USA.
    GO CATS! USA USA!!

I have closely watched all of USA basketball’s exhibitions and doubt that Boogie will see much court time. As Coach K has stated, his style of play doesn’t jell well with what the team does and I agree. Hope DeMarcus will be mature about riding the bench and be a good teammate. I have my doubts…

plumlee is on this team for ONE reason — K wants to tell recruits that he has two duke players on the USA basketball team. Plumlee deserves to be on that team a “little” more than I do – and I stink. Kyrie Irving is a solid, and deserving, pick – Plumlee being on this team is a joke.

Plumlee has been as effective as Boogie in the exhibitions…

Unbelievable. Does Mason Plumlee really give our country the best chance to win and represent the USA? How about another wing? I’m not so sure Irving should be on the team either. I thought it was pretty funny last year too, when Colangelo made K put Davis on the team. Coach K is showing blatant favoritism towards his school, to the detriment of our country, and he needs to go.

Dude it’s just basketball, it is really of no harm to our country if we win or loose the first game by 100.

And I bet you thought it was pretty funny that the collective TEAM players of the Spurs stomped every team in their path that had better “so-called” talent?

Plumlee, unlike Boogie, will be a good Teammate and willing bench sitter for the USA…

    OMG

    Lillard > Irving
    Parsons >>>> Plumlee

Anyone saying Lillard or Wall is better than Irving is an idiot. Irving may be the best guard for international play on this team. Wall may be better in the NBA, but not in this system where shooting is by far the most important thing for a guard.

    • Voice of Reason
      1:03 pm August 23, 2014 Permalink

I like Irving over Wall for FIBA but Lillard is by far the best choice of the three. He can do everything Kyrie does but better. He’s proven he can make big time plays in the clutch this year in the playoffs and is a knock down shooter, Kyrie, while very talented, is erratic, injury prone, and never played in a big game in his life.

Really going to miss Lillard 42% knock down shooting.

Team USA goes Big. Some of what I have read about the Team USA in the past hinted otherwise.

Honestly, Coach K should have little to any say over who is gonna be on the team if this is how he’s gonna play it. Plumlee is on the team for one reason, and its not because of his basketball talent. THIS IS NOT COACH K’s TEAM. Its the US national team. The best players should be on the team regardless of how their “style of play” matches the international game…PERIOD. Its obvious K is using this tournament to promote his former players. Sorry but Wall and Lillard are miles ahead of Irving in almost every way!!!!

And how was it that John Wall didn’t make the team? Oh, that’s right, DOOK. Kyrie Irving is a real great choice over Wall-not.
