Adam Kunkel will be playing college basketball closer to his old Kentucky home, just not in the state of Kentucky.

After spending two seasons at Belmont University, the Hebron, KY native announced he will cross the Ohio River to continue his basketball career at Xavier University. The Northern Kentucky kid said, “All Glory to God” in his Instagram announcement.

Last year Kunkel earned first team All-OVC honors after averaging a team-high 16.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. He’s expected to sit one year to play two for the Musketeers.

A former all-state player at Cooper High School, Kunkel could have been a Kentucky Wildcat. UK assistants were in communication with shooting guard shortly after he announced his intentions to transfer, but he never spoke with John Calipari. As Jack Pilgrim said, the ball was in UK’s court. They simply did not take the next step in his recruitment to bring the lifelong UK fan to Lexington.

Even though he will not be a Wildcat, KSR is sending good vibes with Kunkel to Xavier.

I think and hope he will do very well there. Xavier has always been my favorite non UK program

Apparently cal never spoke to the kid. As much as we struggle with shooting every year, you’d think there’d be room for him. I’m sick of institutional racism in our basketball program preventing 87.5% of our population from ever having a shot of playing for our basketball program.

Cal is racist against white guys, good to know.

He is not at UK because he is in no way an NBA prospect. If he was here he would sit behind someone Cal is pushing as a draft pick even if that draft puck is not ready. And the fans get to watch bad basketball vs bad teams and a flame out to a much inferior team in the tourney. Been that way for years. Hoping the rule change will stop this. Only title Cal won was with veterans, I don’t care if they are black, white, green or purple you must have them to win it all.

That is possibly the most bizarre perspective I’ve seen on KSR, and that’s saying a lot.

Huh? Stop trolling moron. Jared Polson, Derrick Willis, Kyle Wiltjer, Josh Harrellson, or Tyler Herro ring a bell?

How many times does this comment need to be posted? It was stupid the first time on another article.

If Cal thought he could play here then he would’ve reached out. Just because he was All OVC doesn’t mean he can measure up at a Power 5. Probably more going on here than meets the eye.

The only reason the kids transfer made headlines here is that he is a Kentucky bred player. Xavier is a good step up for him.
