’94 feet with Jay Bilas’ will (finally) feature a Kentucky player

Ask and you shall receive, Big Blue Nation.

After being flooded with gripes following ESPN’s decision to feature Kansas’ Quentin Grimes, not a Kentucky player, for Jay Bilas’ popular “94 Feet” segment at Rupp Arena a few weeks back, the network finally gave the fans what they wanted this time around.

With ESPN College GameDay in town for the Tennessee game, the Kentucky men’s basketball Twitter account released the following video, indicating Bilas finally used a Wildcat for the popular interview.

The player? Kentucky star forward PJ Washington.

Here is a preview:

Last time around, Bilas responded to critics by blaming Kentucky for the situation, saying UK doesn’t practice in Rupp on Friday or Saturday, making it difficult for them to coordinate schedules and record a segment with a Wildcat athlete.

When told by a Kentucky fan that it needs to be a UK player this time around or the segment doesn’t need to happen at all, Bilas responded by saying he has gone to Cameron Indoor Stadium, the Phog, and the Dean Dome and recorded the segment with players of the opposing team before.

In short, Rupp isn’t any different.

Glad to see they could work out the “logistics” for this one.

A bunch of over sensitive fans making a big deal out of nothing.

Are you implying that I’m a UofL fan based on that comment? Ignorance is in fact bliss.

I know most blue-tinted UK fans can’t stand the guy just because he went to dUKe. But, he calls it how he sees it, and he actually played the game. He brought up an unbelievable point about not practicing at Rupp, as well. The visiting team shouldn’t have more time in a teams home building than that team themselves. CATS

He has good takes on a lot of stuff, but he also toes the ESPN line (since they’re his employer), resulting in him going way too easy on the UNC scandal, and he also doesn’t hold his school or former coach at Duke to the same standard he does others. Look no further than when he actually spoke without bias on Grayson Allen’s punk behavior only to change his tune a day later (presumably after a call from his bosses or his old coach).

The man has fewer good takes than bad takes. Remember when he said J Oakfor should have been #1 over Karl? He is thin skinned, a know-it-all, and boring. He has ruined college gameday and is a drag to see when you want to watch premier college basketball. Williams & Hill are dukies and way better at calling college basketball games! Quit saying UK fans dont like him because he is a duke guy… I dont like him because he sucks at color commentary.

I think the word gripes is not the right word Jack. I think BBN expressed their feelings about the player used. Gripes is what some of us do after reading some of y’all stories. GO BIG BLUE!

Thank god he didn’t do it with nick Richards. He’d probably trip and fall down while doing it.

This has to be the stupidest story of the year. UK fans who don’t understand all the logistics of setting up a television broadcast works, overreact. Even if it is a simple process, WHO CARES if they use a Kansas player?! What does that matter to anything?

Gotta say that I loved Game Day in the more intimate setting of Memorial. Hope they use it for every future Lexington edition of Game Day.

That list is too long.. He is marginally better than Bill Packer, Bill Rafferty, and current Dick Vitale. Between CBS, FOX, and ESPN he is outside the top 25 of color commentary for college basketball. The state of the sport would be better off with him not calling games. In short Jay Bias is TERRIBLE!

How do you really feel jhanc? Seriously, I think he is very good. Everyone that says they hate him seem to be against him for the same reason you spelled his name wrong. You seem pretty biased. Is there anything quantitative or objective that anyone who does not like him can articulate? Or, is it like my fellow juror during the Voir Dire process who raised his hand and shared with the attorneys and judge “ I just don’t think I can be objective on this trial”. When they asked him why not he responded with “I just don’t think I can be.”

You want quantitative, he comments on the officiating too much, he does not have inflation points in his tone of voice thoughout the broadcast to indicate excitement, and he does not make comments on numerous college basketball teams to show a broad understanding of several teams (he instead focuses on 5-10 teams, which vary based on the year). Again, you think he is very good based on what? He knows the sport? Really, that is it.. I spell his name based on him being bias towards the agenda he is trying to push. I gave you facts, what are yours that he is good?

Has always amazed me, going back to Tubby days, that UK doesn’t practice at Rupp much at all. I get it, their practice facility is at MC, but seems like it would benefit to practice there more.
