3 of the 4 most-watched college basketball games this season have been Kentucky games

John Calipari likes to say that Kentucky “moves the needle” in college basketball, and today, we have a prime example. Three of the four most-watched games in college basketball this season have been Kentucky games. The Cats’ win over North Carolina remains the highest-rated game this season, with 3.62 million viewers, followed by last Saturday’s game vs. Kansas (3.35 million), Wisconsin vs. Purdue (??, 2.97 million), and Kentucky vs. Louisville (2.72 million). Kentucky’s game vs. Michigan State in the Champions Classic comes in at number eight.

Here’s the top ten from

# Game Network Rating Viewers
1 Kentucky/UNC CBS 2.2 3.62M
December 17
2 Kentucky/Kansas ESPN 2.0 3.35M
January 28
3 Wisconsin/Purdue CBS 1.9 2.97M
January 8
4 Kentucky/Louisville ESPN 1.7 2.72M
December 21
5 MSU/Ohio State CBS 1.5 2.363M
January 15
6 Kansas/Duke ESPN 1.5 2.361M
November 15
7 Duke/Louisville ESPN 1.4 2.09M
January 14
8 Kentucky/MSU ESPN 1.3 2.08M
November 15
9 UNC/Indiana ESPN 1.3 1.97M
November 30
10 Michigan/MSU CBS 1.2 1.93M
January 28

It would have been better if all four of those games had been wins, of course, but numbers don’t lie; even in a season in which most thought all eyes would be on Duke, Kentucky is college basketball.

Not shocked UK’s on top, but definitely surprised Wisconsin/Purdue is at #3

Actually Duke is the most popular and still getting all the attention. Also Duke is just better.

The data says otherwise, but keep clinging to your alternative facts Dukie.

Agree with your excellent takedown of the Dukie, but the abuse of the term “alternative facts”, which is a perfectly legitimate and often-used legal term, must be corrected. In correct legal usage, alternative facts are truthful evidence that contradicts (or appears to contradict) other truthful evidence. It is how the courts deal with the so-called Rashomon Effect where subjective POVs or looking at different times causes the same thing to be seen differently.

Alternate fact, the Bowling Green Massacre: ‘Kellyanne Conway, a senior adviser to Donald Trump, has come in for criticism and ridicule after blaming two Iraqi refugees for a massacre that never happened.
The woman is a fountain of bs.

Check out the national sports blogs….K and Duke are the most hated program in the country.
Yeah, people watch them….they want to see Coach K lose, and they want to see Grayson Allen cold cocked.
Better? 4 final fours in last 7 years, and 8 Nat Championships to 5.

1 championship for UK since Cal became coach to 2 for Duke.
Congratulations on your titles pre-1960. I’m sure those teams were thrilling to watch, you guys had Billy, who had a better hook shot than Jimmy.

@ Mr. Noital, Are you another one of those hateful, “outraged” progressive (sic) elites who controlled the US for 8 years and are now upset that their side is now ruled by the lowly, “lesser” underclass?

Yeah, Nets and Nets: UK won 4 championships before 1960, and was coached by a man that changed the game with the fast break. UK’s heritage is much richer than Duke’s. UK also won the NIT in the ’40’s when it was the premier tournament.
UK leads the nation with 60 20-win seasons, 14 30-win seasons, and 6 35-win seasons. The most wins in a season is 38; UK has two, Memphis has one, all coached by Calipari.
Popular? I remember Duke’s 2010 championship…it was estimated 97% of the country was for Butler.
