Allonzo Trier, a 6’4″ shooting guard from Rockville, MD, committed to head coach Sean Miller and the University of Arizona Wildcats today. Trier, the No. 11 player in 247Sports’ class of 2015 composite rankings, led the Nike Peach Jam in scoring last month with 30.8 PPG.
Though Kentucky was never thought to be a favorite for the prolific scorer, earlier this summer, 247Sports’ Chris Fisher reported that John Calipari began to make a push for Trier’s services:
“Coach Calipari texted me as soon as USA Trials cuts were made and he told me congratulations,” Trier said. “He was talking about how good I’ve been playing this summer. He just said to keep it up. He said he’s been following me and he’ll continue to follow me.
“Everybody knows how [Kentucky is] great with guards,” Trier said. “They have a lot of guys that go one-and-done, high lottery picks. They let their guards play and use their ability.”
Trier joins a loaded 2015 Arizona class that already includes top prospects Justin Simon and Ray Smith.
In the words of Shawn Carter, it’s on to the next one.
