20 Years Ago, UK had a First Half to Remember

I don’t think there will ever be a first half to top UK’s first half against LSU on January 16, 1996.  Pitino’s Untouchables pressed, dunked and rained three’s from all over the floor to drop 86 points in only 20 minutes.

With Dickie V on the call, it’s arguably the greatest UK YouTube video of all-time.  Take the time to enjoy all 8 minutes of it.

I can’t help but giggle every time I watch.  UK makes LSU look like a JV team with their suffocating press.

Take a look at the box score from the 129-97 win on BigBlueHistory.net.

When you add up the Mardi Gras Miracle comeback in 94, the 127-80 Senior Day beatdown at Rupp in 95, and this first half, UK outscored LSU by a total of 275-149 in about 75 minutes of game time.

How did we give up 97 points?! I tell ya, Pitino has got to do something to tighten up this defense! Also, big shout to my man Oliver Simmons! DLHS! 1993 TSSAA State Champs!
