Rex Chapman is doing well, apologized to Cal for the tweet

rex

Jerry Tipton over at the Herald-Leader took a break from writing terrible things about the Kentucky basketball program to write something positive, in this case, our good friend Rex Chapman.

Last year was a rough year for Chapman, as you know, but he has gotten his life together since hitting rock bottom with his September arrest for shoplifting. He is doing well in his recovery from painkiller addiction, he’s down 40 pounds, and “feeling great,” he says.

And there is this:

UK associate coach Kenny Payne, a contemporary of Chapman as a player, called weekly. UK Coach John Calipari joined Payne on a visit to The Brook Hospital.

When Calipari visited, Chapman said he apologized for “the tweet thing.”

Hours before Kentucky played Connecticut in the 2014 national championship game, Chapman tweeted that it was a “done deal” that Calipari would leave UK to become coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

“He’s been great to me,” Chapman said of Calipari.

Chapman’s return to the broadcast table for the Final Four Team Stream has received mixed reviews from UK fans, understandably. But like him or not, you have to be happy he’s overcome his addiction and owned up to his mistakes.

True, Drew. So what’s Tipton’s excuse? Just evil.

That’s one of my favorite opening sentences for a KSR post.

I’m happy when any addict makes progress, but he should not call the game. I will not watch him.

    No. But, thanks, though.

I have no use for either of them. Tipton is the worst. I will never intentionally read anything he writes.

As for Rex, I loved him as a player. I have no use for him as a pompous prick of a man. He had his second chance when he came on KSR to explain. He chose to double down and tell Kentucky fans how stupid we are.

    Bridges burned.

Which is it? Are you a jerk or a coward? Apologize to the fan base.

You do realize that he’s “your good friend” because you talk into a microphone and have a web site than can help him right? If you didn’t he would be crapping on you just like the rest of BBN. I want nothing to do with that self-serving, narcissistic windbag. No way will I watch or listen to anything he is on.

Rex is an embarrassment to BBN. He needs to go away and never be heard or seen again. I have no respect for him and he has disrespected UK, coach Cal, and UK basketball in general.

Good for Rex. Glad to hear the good news and I applaud him for taking responsibility for his faults and applying the determination to fight and overcome his addiction. I wish him a happy life and good fortune as life is tough enough. No hate here, just love. (I would say same thing if this story was about a person from another university, school or any other walk of life). Life is tough enough without throwing rocks down the mountain. Go Big Blue

I couldn’t care less about Rex Chapman or anything he does or says anymore. He doesn’t deserve the attention he so desperately craves.
