15% capacity at indoor college sporting events likely this season

We are 42 days away from college basketball season, and sources tell KSR that right now, it looks like Kentucky colleges will be allowed to have some fans in the stands.

According to Matt Jones, the current working assumption for attendance at indoor college sporting events this winter is 15% capacity. That means roughly 3,000 fans at Rupp Arena. Should the University of Kentucky want to allow more or less fans at Rupp or Memorial Coliseum, they can submit a proposal to the Governor’s office, but for now, 15% is the working assumption for colleges in Kentucky. The volleyball team, which begins its season this weekend, is using the player-guest and coach-guest attendance model, with no ticket options for the general public.

Kentucky’s basketball schedule isn’t final yet, but here are the games and dates that we know:

  • Lexington pod (scheduled for Nov. 25, 27, and 29)
    • Kentucky will play Richmond, Detroit Mercy, Morehead State
  • Champions Classic (scheduled for Dec. 1)
    • Kentucky will play Kansas
  • Holiday Hoopsgiving (scheduled for Dec. 6)
    • Kentucky will play Georgia Tech
  • Kentucky vs. Notre Dame (scheduled for Dec. 12)
  • CBS Sports Classic (originally scheduled for Dec. 19)
    • Kentucky will play UCLA
  • Kentucky vs. Louisville (scheduled for Dec. 26)
  • SEC schedule (begins Dec. 29 and 30)
    • 20 play dates, 18-game conference schedule
  • Big 12/SEC Challenge (target date is January 30th, 2021)
    • Kentucky’s opponent has not yet been determined
