You can’t defend a layup any better than this…

Getting blocked by someone can be embarrassing.  Getting blocked by two someones can be very embarrassing.  Driving the lane and getting your stuff swatted by three someones?  Maybe you should pursue a career in something else.  Yes, I’m looking at you, Shelby Moats.

OMG… I must’ve missed that last night. Look at how high Poythress got up!

At what point did he think that was gonna work?

Who gets the stat for the block? Both?

What’s cool is that the ball didn’t even get knocked to the ground. They all blocked it and Willie just took it from him.

Wanna know what happens there against a good team? The two wide open guys on the wing break to the basket and he dishes it to one of them for a dunk.

Wow #5, you just repeated what the commnetators said last night, how insightful.

Yeah, let’s make fun of the guy that outplayed (9 Points, 10 Rebounds) all three of those future NBA guys. That’s about the only time they beat him last night. Wildcatsteeler is right. A good team would have posterized that play or hit a wide open 3.

Not pictured defending layups: Kyle Wiltjer.

For those of you who don’t know basketball (Drew?)- this is actually bad defense.

For our 3 big men to all fall off their own man to collapse of Moats without acknowledging the presence of the other Kentucky players or the one closest / in best position to deny the shot is a lack of situational awareness.

If they had blocked the shot out as a loose ball, that would leave 4 open Vandy players and 2 open UK players to retrieve / defend.

A good Vandy team could retrieve the loose ball, pass the ball to one of the 2 wide open players properly spaced on the perimeter to bury the 3.

I guess if your Freshman showing fight is all you care about, then yes great effort. But in the end, this lack of situational awareness doesn’t make it to the Final Four.

I agree with 5 & 7 and think that is the biggest flaw on this team. Last year there was so much more trust on defense (regardless of KY’s opponent). That led opposing teams to limited options and forced them to speed the tempo of the game up which played to KY’s advantage. Gotta trust their teammates to make that play.

Also what Wildcatsteeler said. Drive and dish to 2 wide open guys.

Again, A for effort, F for situational awareness.

As a point guard, I would dream to go up against teams that would overplay like this.

You guys are being stupid. They didnt actually close on him till he picked up his dribble and took a step.

Nerlens had the pick uo off the pick and roll and Cauley-Stein was supposed to be there.
Poythress is maybe the only one out of place, but at least he hustled on that play.

A good player would have just pump faked and went to the line. If he just jump stopped then Noel, WCS, and Poytress all foul him.

Wow, what a bunch of Negative Nancy’s. Why complain about all the negatives, there were enough other plays where our weaknesses were exploited. At least this time a solid effort came away with a turnover.

Blocked a shot on the worst Vandy team I can ever remember. And what happened on the offensive end?. Goodwin dribbled into nowhere, Mays misses shot, Poyn charges, Wilcher nowhere to be found?
