Xavier Rathan-Mayes (Teammate of Andrew Wiggins) Picks Florida State

Last night Xavier Rathan-Mayes committed to playing basketball for Leonard Hamilton’s Florida State Seminoles.  The 6’4” Shooting Guard chose Florida State over UConn and Illinois.  This information is relevant to Kentucky fans because he happens to be a teammate and close friend to #1 overall player in the 2014 class, Andrew Wiggins.  This essentially narrows Wiggins’ college choices down to Florida State and Kentucky.  It’s still unsure whether this will sway Wiggins’ decision to re-classify to 2013 or not.  But, when Rathan-Mayes was asked if it would sway his decision one way or or the other he replied, “Everyone thinks he’s going to Kentucky, but he’s not really focused on recruiting right now. I don’t want to get into it too much with him because we’re such good friends, but he knows I want him to come to Florida State.”

Cal knows best, but he should have offered this kid just cause, to Wiggins here it wouldn’t have scared off Young or the Harrisons, Xavier would have been a good multi year player as well. Not saying this totally tips the scale in the favor of FSU but it helps, it helps a lot.

Should I give him the friend from high school into college free card like Lamb and Jones? How about the new house for the family and friends like Cousins? Or do I go all in and just pay him $250k like Anthony Davis? Decisions, decisions, decisions…..

    3. What a sad, lonely, depressing life you lead trolling other team’s sites. I bet all of your nights end with gun barrel in your mouth, a cold sweat, and your eyes burning with tears because you’re too chicken**** to pull the trigger and end the embarrassment for your mother.

I love the haters that say UK pays players. They all get millions of dollars when they go pro, so what’s 250k? Haters meet reality… There’s nothing illicit going on, there’s no reason for it because Calipari and UK are just better than everyone else. Case closed.

So, should UK football start offering scholarships to friends, brothers, uncles, aunties, and baby mommas of top recruits to ensure the star will land here?

Happens all the time, UK football should get in on the fun.

Oh no!!! A great player’s (Wiggins) friend (Raythan-Mays) is going to an otherwise worthless school (FSU) and UK might loose him!!!! Why do you guys even write this dribble!? You know he’s going where he’ll get challenged by other great players everyday! Go Cats! Get#9!

Does anyone know if the team has had a players only meeting this year? Ya know, where someone stands up and calles out everyones manhood – and questions their heart. Ya know, askes the ‘team’ if they really want to play football anymore. Ya know, finds out what the team REALLY thinks of Joker and the staff – since they don’t seem to be working hard for them or listening to them.

I have a feeling the fans would not want to know the answers to these questions.

What always amuses me is that they choose to accuse Cal of paying players, but even in the investigations that DIDN’T EVEN DIRECTLY INDICT CAL, it was situations of players doing things away from the program. People amaze me.

I will be very surprised if Andrew Wiggins does not choose Kentucky. He can still have Mayes as a friend from a distance. Besides the closeness to Huntington to Lexington will make for an easy one year transition for Wiggins to come to star at UK.

Terrence Jones best friend chose Washington, but Jones picked UK (eventually).
Harrison twins had Under Armour ties, family pressure, relationships with the coach and essentially every reason to pick Maryland, but they picked UK.

Are we really going to let some kid who picked Florida St. make us doubt Coach Cal?

Yo KSR, I’m going to be hitting refresh on your site ALL day in hopes of the news we have all been looking for…

Joker Phillips has been relieved of duties as University of Kentucky head football coach. Mitch Barnhart confims that he has already begun negotiations with Bobby Pertino.

#13 I would guess that move has already been made. However Joker will finish this year out. Nothing to gain by making the announcement now. You haven’t heard Mitch publicly back Joker that should tell all you need to now. He’s gone!

If Wiggins reclassifies he most likely goes to UK, if he stays with his current class, FSU’s chances get a whole lot better. I personally think he stays with his current class. Young committing to UK speaks volumes about the status of Wiggins on whether he reclassifies or not in my opinion. FSU adding his teammate seems to show their willingness to make their school as appealing as possible to Wiggins.

These posters, like #3 just expose their stupidity and it tells more about the poster than what they say! When you are the best like Cal there is no need to pay people. Cal has dozens of players begging for those 5 scholarships, just begging to come to UK!

Ask yourself how many final 4’s has Fla. St. played in and how many National Championships have they won in the last 10 years? How many lottery picks have they had in the draft lately, that is all you need to know!

The twins good friend signed at Maryland and you see how that worked out. You don’t think it is a coincidence that Wiggins moved to Huntington Prep, do you? All those games in KY that he will be playing this year?

@12. I think the PayPal Cal guy is refering to his actual best friend, not Terrance Ross. I don’t know about Lamb getting a best friend here too but TJ’s best friend absolutely came here his name was Larry Warren and he was the one driving the suv when Jones was in the car accident. I thought the Forde and Thamel’s were going to be all over it because the friend was a driving a new Escalade here from Washington probably is getting some kind of tuition hook up he shouldn’t have been. I was worried about that a lot actually.

Lambs best friend came with him to uk. If you follow him on twitter you can see that. I don’t see the big deal tho its common for good friends to go somewhere and even room together. I know you all see them as superstars but they are just kids. When you make real money getting an escalade for your kid is no big deal.

@Hamburger, I’m not gonna throw any jabs but you call FSU worthless… Really dude? Because they’re competing with the school you adore for a player that has nothing to do with your life, they’re worthless? THAT sounds pretty worthless! The kid is a GREAT player. If he chooses your school, great! If he chooses FSU, great! It will be nice to watch him play! The kids is the number NBA pick right now so really there isn’t much any college coach can do for him.
