Everyone is understandably furious at Koman Coulibaly, the referee from Mali who screwed up the United States’ chances against Slovenia today. But as the picture suggests, we should have been skeptical when we saw the rest of his officiating team. A travesty. Some notes….
— Today Kenny Payne will be officially announced as UK’s new assistant coach. It took some time to get the official stuff sorted out, but as of today he will be on UK’s staff and getting it done for the Blue and White. We welcome Kenny and look forward to him bettering what is already an absurd recruiting team.
— In case you missed it yesterday, Walter McCarty is leaving Louisville in order to become as Assistant with the Indiana Pacers. This is good news for UK fans, who now only have to view Steve Masiello on the bench as a former UK player and it is good for Walter as the NBA is where he wants to be. Rick really needs to go and get a proven recruiter in there to help his staff…but if he doesnt, I will not shed a tear.
— The Royce White news is heating up by the minute. The UK interest is legit and his chances of ending up in Lexington are high. The one piece of new news to me is that when White was in high school, he was kicked out of his first school because of an academic fraud issue. White himself acknowledges that “on paper” his resume does not look good. And at least that is a good thing for him to realize. But to get to where he needs to be, he has to make a change. John Calipari said at his initial press conference that he will take chances on guys and give them a second chance. At least at Kentucky, this will be his biggest chance yet.
— If you missed the Ron Artest interview, make sure and check it out. When he thanked his psychiatrist, I laughed like no other post game interview in history. Artest is crazy, but sincere and I am glad to see him do well. Favorite Artest story was when he is in Chicago with the Bulls. He applied to work at Circuit City while on the team. The Circuit City folks told the Bulls, who confronted him and asked why he did that and he said “because I wanted to get the employee’s discount.” Aww Artest.
— I have soccer fever. Thats just the reality. Dont know how long it will last, but at least for the World Cup, I am hooked.
— Andy Katz followed Boogie around for a couple of weeks for his Outside the Lines piece. When not turning down our podcasts, I talked to Katz about it a few days ago and he loves Cousins and think this piece will say a lot about him. I hope everyone will watch it.
— Daniel Orton is the official wildcard of the NBA Draft. The Pacers who pick at #10 brought him for a workout this week….some think he might drop to end of first round. Will be a nervewracking night for that young man.
More all day as we continue to hate Slovenia, the nation of Mali and all things Cards….
