So I got into a twargument (twitter argument) last night with a fellow UK fan. He kept saying U โ€œofโ€ K and I said that true UK fans never say the โ€œofโ€. It got pretty interesting, but I want to know from you all, was I wrong?

153 — Newton is too slow to be an effective runner in the Wildcat.
152 — It is certainly not a dead formation and many teams at the college level still use it in some shape or form. What’s not to like about getting an extra blocker on a run play, while still threatening the defense with a pass? Even some pro teams will run a play or two out of it during games.

Yeah, it’ll be around here and there for a wrinkle, but you aren’t going to see it used as heavily or exclusively like has been in the past 10 years. It’s like every other offensive scheme. Once teams learn to scheme against it, its value is diminished.

Obviously defenses are getting better against it, but it will always allow for 11-on-11 football vs. 10-on-11 football and that fact alone is why it is always valuable. You will see the Jets run it this season with Tebow, as well as other teams with good runners that can throw a little will more than likely install it somewhere in their playboook.

167 — Tim Tebow would blow Morgan Newton off the field in a race. He certainly is fast for his size and that is why he is so powerful on his runs. He ran a 4.7 40-yard-dash coming into the NFL. Tim Tebow runs with quickness, agility, and power. He also is agile enough to decide when to stop running and throw the ball. He has a lot of ability. Morgan Newton is not nearly as skilled or as quick as Tebow.

If I were the UL fan to whom you said, “Why would we ever lose a recruit?” I would have an answer.

I would say that when UK sent the first indirect suggestion that something would be offered to me in return, the player/family decided that they didn’t want to be involved with anything like that. I would suggest that the moral standards of the kid involved were higher than UK so they lost interest. Not every kid/family wants to risk losing THEIR eligibility to play at your school.

I don’t believe for a second that UK cheats… because they don’t need to cheat. But that would be my response.

Anyway, We went around the bar (in the heart of Volunteer country) doing the whoa C-A-T-S = Cats! Cats! Cats! cheer at opportune times. A few UT fans spoke out but I told them look, we beat you all in football and womens basketball this year so don’t try to talk smack. Then I continued to tell them the “story” of why I hate UT fans. I may have even helped a few to “crossover” to the blue. GO CATS!!!!
