Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

With The Twins Committed Who’s Next?

Yesterday produced this great photo of Coach Cal and the situation room which had me asking the question, when will the situation room be used again? Now that the 2013 class is well underway with three members the only question left is the manta of the great Bill Goldberg. Who’s next? Kentucky is on the list of just about every player still uncommitted in the class. So which player holding an offer is going to be the next guy to join up? Will it be…

Julius Randle?

Earlier this week news broke that Randle had trimmed his list to Kentucky and everybody else. Which is basically the same thing Jason Jordan of USA Today said last week when he was on the radio show. Texas is also in the mix but how could you ever pick Rick Barnes over Cal? This weekend the top ranked prospect in the land is going to Florida to check out the Gators and probably see their football team get beat by LSU. I’d use my visits for a trip around the country too if I were him so it may be a little while before the best player in the class pulls the trigger.

35%

James Young?

There was a time when it seemed like James Young would pull the trigger at any moment. Then things settled down a bit with the top guard but after a visit to campus last weekend it looks like Young could be the next commitments for the Cats. Young could perhaps be coming by again next weekend for Big Blue Madness, if that is the case I would imagine it would be hard for the shooter to pass up on the blue and white. I hope Young will be the next member of #BBN.

55%

Andrew Wiggins?

If Wiggins is going to join the class of 2013 then we may be hearing something over the next couple of weeks. If he does join this class the Cats are in good shape and the greatest class of all time would never get close to being touched. If he decides to put off his college choice for another year then his recruitment will take a backseat for another year. If he does join this class then I wouldn’t expect a decision until the spring.

30%

There are a bunch of other guys with the potential to join this class. Aaron Gordon? Woodson? Who do you think is going to be the next player to join the class of 2013?

I think it will be Young, then possibly Lee, then Randle and top it off with Wiggins. Hell, I could sit on the bench and coach and win the SEC and possibly the NCAA. Billy G could even win 24-25 games with that talent. (Maybe not, they might not be tough enough)

Young, Randle, Gordon …. then Wiggins when he makes up his mind to join 2013

I agree with MemphisCat’s response about the order of upcoming commitments. It is coming soon. This has to be the best time period in many years to be a cats fan. Cal recruits like Rupp used to, only likely somewhat better. Rupp used to get the best of the best, also during his hey day. That is how it should always be at Kentucky. Life is good!

if they would have won a championship i think the 2009 class would be considered the best of all time! its not about how many go pro but how many are great at the pro level. with wall and boogie being sure fire pro all stars one day i dont see how that talent could be topped ever! would you take any recruit today over either of these players?

35% on Randle? For real? Holy crap. Double that and I’d still say something. The Alumni game made him an automatic.

I laughed during the debate about the state of our education system. I laugh again now. Maybe Barack is right, we need another 100k math and science teachers. Well played Andrew. How do I internalize the 115% chance that the next commitment is from one of these three. What if a dark horse sneaks in for the next commitment? Do the laws of the universe collapse in on themselves? I’m rooting for this scenario. #recruitingwormhole

I meant the percentage as the likelihood they would be the next to commit, not the likeliness of them picking UK

7… Those percentages are for who might commit next… Not the chance that they commit. If that were the case, it’d be 100% for all of them

And I want to add again, if Joker does in fact get fired, please get Kirby Smart…. Add Randy Shannon get Tee Martin back from SoCal and keep Rock on staff. Guy with no baggage he is well known and he one of top asst that will take a team to next level!Seriously we need to get on board with this hire!!!! No other football coach will get us there and not feeling Petrino or, Tresell at all… This will IMO get UK to where they need to be in football and be excited for the future!

Despite the public announcement that he and the Harrison twins are “cool” and the congrats to them via twitter, Randle truly doesn’t like them at all according to those that are close to him. UK had a much stronger chance of getting Randle if the Harrison boys had gone to Maryland. Florida and Texas now are the teams that stand the best shot at Randle. Donovan and company can really sell the idea of Randle playing with a pure point guard like Kasey Hill that is a pass first player that sets up the shooting guard and the big men. Look for Randle to be the next recruit to commit to the Gators!

  28. C
    9:29 pm October 5, 2012 Permalink

For the reading impaired and mathematically impaired:

The author of the post is giving the odds of the players being THE NEXT to commit. That means that they are not mutually exclusive. If we’re talking about the odds of them being the next to commit, the percentages must add to 100% (or less, if other options are available). This is not a difficult concept. It would be like saying there’s a 50% chance Kentucky wins the title this year, a 50% chance Louisville wins the title this year, and a 50% chance Indiana wins the title this year. How are so many people so mathematically illiterate?

  29. Math Genius
    9:32 pm October 5, 2012 Permalink

    23. The percentages are not mutually exclusive. If one person commits first, the others have a zero percent chance of committing first. That means it is not exclusive. The sum of all three percentages should be 100%, if no one outside these three has a chance of committing first. The percentages should never sum to over 100%, because a person committing FIRST (ie one before all others) precludes another person committing FIRST.

Chris Walker plays the same position as Julius Randle…unless one of them plays out of position at C…Randle has already said that he would love to play with the twins (and if he didn’t like them AT ALL, why would he send them congrats on twitter…usually, when I don’t like someone, I ignore them completely)…but Young commits next… Randle will wait till Spring regardless, but Kentucky will be his destination….Gordon and Lee will stay on the West Coast and Wiggins will come in 2014…my guess, is that at Midnight Madness, both Young and Wiggins will discuss

  31. VinDatuk
    9:34 pm October 5, 2012 Permalink

27: and shoot first, second, and third PF option in Walker. Randle must have been really impressed with the roster of the Florida alumni game when he got to meet Dwayne Schintzius, Erving Walker and Matt Walsh…what’s that you say? There was no alumni game? Got it.

  32. einstein
    9:35 pm October 5, 2012 Permalink

They are not exclusive. You can not have 2 players with a 99% chance of being the NEXT to commit. It has to equal 100% because there is only 100% chance of the next commitment.

#27 Aren’t you the same guy who had inside info last year. You know Billy D had already told his players Bennett had committed to FL. Then got all butt hurt when it didn’t happen. You my friend are a poster just like the rest of us. You don’t know Randle or anyone close to him. Sorry pal this is a token visit no more. Fl. Stands 0 chance with him. I think you are full of sh**. Just to be frank. Now if you want to talk football I will no dought concede to you. Fl. Is on the way back, but in BB we will always be your daddy.

31- Our alumni stay very close to the basketball program and many of them workout playing with the current Gators during the summer. David Lee, Udonis Haslem, Corey Brewer, Joakim Noah, Al Horford, Jason Williams, Mike Miller, Chandler Parsons, and Brad Beal are just some of the former Gators that will always call Florida home and will always be Gators at heart.

Dang #38 didn’t realize all the Gators in the NBA. Always pulled for UF when they aren’t playing Florida, not a hated rival like Tennessee. Not mad for any recruit picking UF. If I was a 1 and done, why not go to UF. Beautiful women, beach, etc. I think the Harrison’s rule out getting Randle even though he says he’s cool with them, don’t think he is.

34- I told you the truth about Bennett and ultimately it was UK and Florida both dropping him instead of the other way around. Both schools wanted Bennett badly but his academic situation was too risky to take a chance on. Bennett was coming to Florida, whether you want to believe that or not. If you recall, Bennett “cut” Florida from his list on a Friday and then “cut” UK on Sunday of that same weekend. The truth is he was planning on coming to Florida that very weekend but our compliance officer said no way we are paying for an official visit with your transcript with so many questionable issues. He then contacts UK and was pretty much told the same story. Next thing you know, he commits to UNLV. Believe it or not, I know what happened and that is what went down. You can choose to believe me on the Randle situation or not either but take my advice and remember what I’m telling you and we will see who is right this spring when he commits to the Gators.

Thanks 40- UK is going to get outstanding classes, no cat fan has anything to worry about. I think Donovan has done a great job at Florida especially considering it is a football school that really had no basketball tradition of winning at all prior to him taking the job. My Gators aren’t one of the blueblood teams like UK, Duke, North Carolina, Kansas to just name a few but we are making strides and sometimes even beat out some of the big boys for a recruit or two. There are a few of us that care about the basketball program more than football, just not enough. LOL

30-Julius Randle can play either forward spot. As a matter of fact, both Walker and Randle can shoot well from the outside as well as take it to the rim. There would be no conflict of them playing together on the same team.

Gator fan, I know you think you are right, but Randle and his mother both absolutely love UK. His official for the alumni game and the in home visit will be very hard to compete with. Also, Randle himself has said that he has no problem with the twins, those are false accusations. While Kasey Hill is good, he still isnt Andrew Harrison. Andrew is a big pg who will bully Hill when they meet on the court…watch and see. But remember, only reason you got Walker is cuz Cal didnt offer him…he would have been a Cat.

Cal has a real interest in the guy and has offered him so never know. He’s not the type of big man Cal has been goin after here lately, but he is in the Harrellson, Cousins mold so it will be interest to see it play out. But, it will probably be hard to get him out of NC. At 6’8 290 though, he would be a brick wall down low.
