Wiltjer has drawn interest from Gonzaga, Portland, Texas, Stanford, Oregon and Oregon State

According to ESPN’s Andy Katz, at least six schools have already expressed interest in becoming Kyle Wiltjer’s next home. Gonzaga, Portland, Texas, Stanford, Oregon and Oregon State have all thrown their name in the hat for the Kyle Wiltjer Sweepstakes. The option for Wiltjer to return to UK is still open — they will hold his scholarship until a final decision is made — but it’s extremely unlikely he’ll be in Lexington next season.
Of the six aforementioned programs, where would you like to see Wiltjer play in 2014-15?
129 Comments for Wiltjer has drawn interest from Gonzaga, Portland, Texas, Stanford, Oregon and Oregon State
Canada!!!
NKU, baby!
I will support Wiltjer at any school he chooses to attend other than Louisville, Indiana, Duke, UNC, another SEC team if that’s even possible. And I could forgive anyone other than the first three, I just don’t want to have to play against a former Cat.
Seriously, Kyle should sit out this year and get ripped like some freak mutant and then come back next year to the Cats!
Kentucky isn’t for everyone!
Oregon…I told my roommate yesterday that that is where he will end up.
Centre
But seriously,I agree with number 4. I always had a gut feeling Kyle would explode his junior or senior year and put up like 30 points in a couple of games. Hope he sees all the love from BBN and decides to stay.
let’s talk about our players. who cares where he goes
Gonzaga.
GU has one of the best redshirt development programs in the country and could do wonders for Kyle’s physical and player development… Just look at Kelley Olynk. Also playing in GU’s system with fellow Canadian Pangos could be extremely entertaining to watch. I think GU is the best fit for him hands down. Good luck big fella.
I agree with 4 too…hes not going to be developed better than he would at UK at any of these schools!!! Hes gotta b patient!!! its not like hes not gunna be n the mix on the court!!! he did well his freshmen yr itll b a similar role except hes got more experience now!!! not to mention hes a deadeye shooter so im sure in late game situations ur not going to see WCS your gunna see big Kylte Wilt!!! KW dont goooooooooooooooo!!
I completely think he should redshirt and come back stonger and better than ever. I do agree he could probably flourish in another system, but why not stay at a school where you’re already loved? If you are going to have to sit out a season anyways, sit out, bulk up and lose some body fat and come back as a really good player for the best team in the country? Imagine Kyle and Towns down low in 2014? WHAAAT?
I guess with all the “extra” schooling some of the newest star players are needing before the season even starts, Kyle decided to transfer to a school where he didn’t have to explain everything to his teammates, and where he can understand what the hell they are saying with their mush-mouth, crap music, entilited lazy mentality.
Basically, the players Recruiter Cow brings in need hooked on phonics more than they need a white boy trying to teach them how to talk and act.
I sure hope Polson doesn’t leave. Who is going to keep the grade point average up?
The whole thing does not make sense. He would be such a weapon next year with guards that can penetrate and dish and the pick and pop. He would get minutes….quite frankly if he’s thinking of his future staying at uk is only way he has a shot at NBA. Worst case Redshirt a year get stronger and come back ready to play. Scoring 13PPG at Gonzaga is not gonna get it done….being buckets from 3 and scoring 10-12 at uk will get it done. He has a role here and in the nba if he puts on some muscle…big guys that can light it up from 3 can play in nba (im looking at you matt bonner) b/c they jack up the D b/c they draw the other teams bigs from the basket. He has no future in basketball if he leaves UK….plus it kinda looks like he is not confident in his own abilities….he is pulling an archie goodwin and leaving b/c he thinks he is not good enough to play. I was really excited about him this year because he would be able to be used in a way that makes him most successful
Not saying he would have thrived in the role but I do not at any point remember Kyle being made the “focal point” of the offense.
lonnieb you are an idiot sir!!
my bad Louisville Rules not lonnieb
He certainly received opportunities and chances but I think that’s a pretty exaggerated assertion.
I could cheer for Gonazga and Stanford
13. ever heard of Alex Poythress? gonna be a beast this year and has a 4.0, you sterotyping trash
Maybe Alex P will considering he had a 4.0 just a food for thought. You sound extremely racist.
#17, You’re correct. Louisville does Rule.
these schools should not be allowed to contact him unless he has already been released by UK
#20, #21, Of course Alex Poythress has a 4.0 because he doesn’t give any effort on the basketball court, he might as well try in the classroom.
13 I just read your post to a coworker who loves UofL and he said you’re so stupid you have to be a UK fan disguised as a Louisville fan to get us riled up. His last comment “No self- respecting Cardinal fan trolls KSR”.
Where are the u-uv-l GPAs posted?
#25, quit lying about having a job and also about knowing a Louisville fan. “No self-respecting Cardinal fan” even acknowledges a Mildcat fan.
When you leave your “job” (Your mother’s basement) give your sister/wife a hug for me.
Kentucky!
Wise up Kyle, and come back. I read Matt’s post on Kyle last night and I agree with all the reasons he gave for Kyle’s desire to transfer…and I think they are all reason’s he should return. Kyle said he came to UK to compete against the best talent in the country on a day-to-day basis, to challenge himself and grow as a basketball player. If he goes to a school that caters to him, that “hides his weakness” he is only hurting himself. The great players find where they are week and improve those areas, I think Kyle has huge untapped potential, but if he goes somewhere where they cater to him he will never unlock it, he will just keep going with what’s comfortable.
COME BACK KYLE!

Not saying he would have thrived in the role but I do not at any point remember Kyle being made the “focal point” of the offense. He certainly received opportunities and chances but I think that’s a pretty exaggerated assertion.
This is Kyle’s second attempt to leave the team. Time to let him go and wish
him luck.
First if plays in the NBA. Superstars have to play with one another. Roll players have to accepted they are not the superstars, but are very important to team. He can show that at UK.
Second. Can improve a lot things on you own where weak. But foot speed is not one of them. That is his problem very slow feet.
Yes can go somewhere the team is more on his skill set and enjoy good collage career, but likely say good bye to the NBA.
That pic showcases the softness of last year’s team front and center.
I really wish he’d consider a redshirt, he’s still young, but I also think he might just not be a good fit ever for the dribble drive, he’s not quick enough and a redshirt year may make him stronger but not fundamentally change him.
Will Polson be on scholarship if Kyle leaves?
***Has anyone noticed he doesn’t have the silly school restrictions as far as which school Calipari will allow him to attend? Which is the right way to treat athletes who want to move on.
by the way, does anyone know if Louisville even has a website where their fans go to read posts and write comments? I won’t be surprised if no one here knows because we, as Kentucky fans, have better things to do than read about Loserville and comment on their posts…
Louisville would have to make 21 straight Elite 8’s without us making one just to catch up in that historical category. They win first title since Atari’s were popular and look at their heads swell
27 thank you for pointing out that you aren’t self-respecting. ““No self-respecting Cardinal fan” even acknowledges a Mildcat fan.”…didn’t your response acknowledge me? Ah I love stupid Louisville fans, they always give us a reason to laugh at them. ps…I work for the state so if you have a job, thanks for chipping in on my salary. Though I highly doubt you have a job and you are sitting in your mom’s basement smoking blunts as you type.
Wish Kyle the best, really hoped to see him stay and develop to leave here with a degree and multiple championships, but I hope things work out for him whatever path he chooses
L1C4 = Louisville 1 Cow 4 but maybe some day we’ll catch up. lol you’re right, we’ll never catch up. Cow rules!
#27. Do self-respecting Cardinal fans read UK websites obsessively?
UK.
It burns when I pee and my prison neck tattoo is possibly getting infected
Fun fact-My mom also has a line-beard.
GONZAGA
Louisville is superceding UK when it comes to athletics: football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball. I think Cal coaches this season out and bails when everyone from the team announces for the NBA. Not a good vibe with the bball team right now that started with last season’s uneven season followed by not getting Wiggins and Wiltjer transferring. I think UK gets upset in the NCAA tourney by a team that makes them shoot from the outside like Wisconsin.
Wherever he wants to play. He’s been an excellent person to have played for the cats and I hate to see him go….
Won’t be Texas, he’ll go out West.
46. Your not the brightest star in the sky are you??
#38, You are an example why the state of Kentucky and all other states in this country are suffering from lack of leadership. You claim to “work” for the state while using state time to make posts on KSR. Why don’t you quit being a “Richie Farmer” and actually put in an honest days work.
#46) LOL! That’s a good laugh for my morning. Thanks.
#50. Not saying you’re right or wrong, but he never said he’s at work now.
All these things said about Kyle were the same things said about Darius miller by all these smart fans. We know how his senior year turned out
Louisville football team beats Florida in the Sugar Bowl
UK fires Joker and lost to Western Ky at home
Louisville mens bball team wins NC
UK men’s bball team loses to Robert Morris in NIT first rd
Louisville women’s bball team loses to UCONN in NC game
UK women’s bball team loses in Elite Eight
UL men’s baseball team makes college world series
UK men’s baseball team doesn’t
UK is a figgin joke!
Last time I checked Texas was out West….. #48
Derrrrrrr, I am from Louisville derrrrrr! I huff paint derrrrrr! I graduated top of my class derrrrrrrrrrrrr! Derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Da Ville > UK
54 Didn’t UofL lose to both Western and Morehead State over the last few of years in Basketball….
If you don’t want to be here, then we don’t want you here. Best of luck and thanks for your time and effort. You represented the blue and white well and for that, we thank you.
I lick crack.
Crack rocks.
I meant the last few years…lol
If Texas is out West, then Cal, Oregon, Wash must have been annexed by Chinese Far East Empire with out my notice.
Gonzaga. Because I want to see what Kyle looks like with an ungainly mop of hair.
Didn’t UK lose to a Vandy team replacing all five of their starters from last season in the first round of the SEC tournament with an NCAA tournament berth on the line while having three NBA first round draft choices on the team?
Some school that plays against a team made of ferns, because he really can’t guard a fern.
Oregon or Gonzaga – both are good fits for him.
13, that is a pretty dumb and racially-toned comment. I know that Alex Poythress entered UK with AP credits and has a 4.0. Most of UK’s players have done pretty well in the classroom (basketball team has the 2nd highest academic rating in the SEC over the last 3 years) which is tough to do when you have all the basketball obligations and for some did not come from a background which encouraged focusing on academics – not to mention many of these kids are one and done or two-year players so they are doing school work only for the sake of it and not because their coach is turning them into four year players with no NBA proscpects and they need something to fall back on. Wow! Just killed you bro, who’s next?
Jurich > Barnhart
#52, read post #25. He does say he’s at work.
Cal will be gone after this season leaving his successor to recruit and replace virtually an entire roster in the spring after most of the guys leave for the NBA. When UK underachieves again this season, Cal will feel the heat and his entire one and done philosophy will undergo scrutiny from the fanbase. Duke, Mich St, UL and even Kansas are now better than UK with the transfer of Wiltjer. So much for UK fans looking forward to this season the last few years.
oh no. We’re losing a bench player and 5-8 min of unproductive offense and pissspoor defense OH nooooooo
What will we do.
Look I wish the best to Kyle but please do me a favor and not treat this like a M A J O R blow to the program. Is he a good kid, fun to be around, hard working and solid ball player S U R E. Is he Lights out from 3, close down or even near to it Defense? Has he shown any signes that he’ll ever be anything other than a bench player? Is he Soft?!
Will he be a good player for another team with Much less talent and expectations? YES!
54 We all have down years. Your basketball team has down years, so does ours. We won a championship a year ago, you won this year. Let’s not act like your basketball team has done anything ours hasn’t.
As far as football, it’s looking like we are on the rise (no pun on Joker’s rise campaign). Are we going to be better than you all? Time will tell but just a couple of years ago we were hammering you all in football and it can happen again.
Your women’s bball team had a good run and got lucky hitting 3s. Does that mean they are better than us? Well we did beat them AT YUM that same season, so no, you’re not better.
Baseball…maybe you are better, I don’t care bc baseball sucks.
At the end of the school year, you all only ended up with ONE national championship…basketball…just as we did a year ago.
See 2010 against West Virginia. Bet Wall and Cousins wish they had a Wiltjer type 3 point shooter on that team. Same thing will happen to this team. They will face every type of suffocating zone defense on the planet.
70 – Do you even know or even watch basketball…..
Cal isn’t going anywhere. He’ll retire in about 6-7 years from UK. He will not go Pro again. He understands he is a Star here and making 4-5 stacks a year.
I’m am glad you think so much of Kyle but truest me we are only losing a bench player and 8 min….We’ll live!
SO GMAN go back to Loserville and trim your line beard
69 You are right, I am at work. But the nature of my job is working with items that taxpayers submit to me. I am currently waiting on taxpayers to submit information to me, and there is nothing work-wise I can do until I get the info required to do my job. So while I am gainfully employed, you are still sitting in your mom’s basement, smoking weed, being a loser/douche on an opposing fan site. Do you have a job? Let’s hear about it.
#70 – First, you’re an idiot.
There is approximately a 0% chance of Cal leaving after this season.
As much as I love Wiltjer, his impact on the team would be minimal this year.
Sorry, I know I’m feeding.
69 and while I’m at it, I’ll fill you in on something else…I’m not a “he”, I’m female.
77 – Sooooo Noone can tell gender on here so calm down sugercube
I just have a bad feeling that he is going to play against us again at some point and he is going to rip us from 3 point range for about 30. Good luck whereever you go just wish it was BBN!
#73 – Current roster still has 2-3 very good long-range shooters without Wiltjer.
I’m calm, sugar plumb. I was just letting him OR her know so that if they wanted to keep referring to me gender-wise they could get it correctly. Of course I knew I’d get comments like “sugarcube” and “get back in the kitchen” from some of you idiots, so thanks for taking care of that.
72, UL was in the Final Four for two straight years with one NC, not a first rd NIT defeat to a mid major.
Regular season doesn’t matter. It’s all about the NCAA tourney. I don’t care if Matthew Mitchell does the moonwalk at Big Blue Madness.
With all of the baseball bogs on this site and tweets, you’d figure UK fans cared about their baseball team’s success or lack of.
Football games are played on the field, not in off season recruiting. Charlie Strong has been kicking UK’s ass since he got to UL. What happened before doesn’t matter unless you count Petrino.
Wiltjer’s timing is perfect. If he had left right after the season ended, maybe UK gets Wiggins. Also, if he had not committed to UK without taking a visit, maybe UK gets Chane Bahanon. Wiltjer is softer than a baby’s behind.
#82) UL has made the NIT twice under Pitino. Karen Sypher has had to have 1 abortion for being under Pitino.
I’ll have to check, but I believe this was UL’s first ever college world series in baseball. First EVER.
What happened before Strong doesn’t matter? Now that’s a short-term memory right there. I guess that’s why you think UL is so great. Because they had a good YEAR.
You know the best way to deal with Loserville fans on KSR? Pretend their posts don’t exist! This banter has gone on and subtracted from what the issue even is in Franklin’s article. Little brother doesn’t deserve the satisfaction of our attention…
I agree with you #83, but you and I both will probably be deleted because we aren’t kissing ass and saying what is wanted to be heard. He should have left a while back, who knows what the team looks like now. Redshirt here, whatever. But the way he is leaving is a crappy way to do the fans and team you profess to love….Ok, delete at will Drew.
Also #72-would you remind me who knocked UL out of the final 4 the first year you’re referring to? Thank you.
*82
HOW MANY GUYS THAT COME OUT GONZANGA DO WELL IN THE NBA
#86) He probably enjoyed playing with some of the guys on the Canadian team, thought it over, and is deciding it’s best for him to leave when UK has Dakari, AP, WCS, Randle, and Lee in the front court. UK will still be fine. They’ll hopefully bring in a 5th year senior to get a few minutes and fill a role. Wiltjer will be fine too. It’s not a big deal either way; and would have had no impact on Wiggins’ decision.
I hope he goes to Stanford, gets a great education, and if pro ball is his future, does well. If not, with that degree, he’ll be a success if basketball does not work out.
Gman, where’d you go?
Wondering if you could address this:
UL has made the NIT twice under Pitino.
Also, who beat UL in the final 4 the first year you referred to?
Wow, after 1 year we really should be worried.
I like Kyle. I hate to see him go, but I totally understand why he wants to. He doesn’t fit well in a system that relies so much on raw athletic ability. We all knew this when he came in. Cal did everything he could to keep him on the floor, but in the end…..it just wasn’t enough. Kyle could be a STUD on a team that plays a lot of zone. We all saw what he could do when the offense was ran through him (Ole Miss) He is one of the 10 best shooters in college basketball and can really pass the ball. I wish him the best. I think he would be a GREAT fit at Gonzaga.
For those with the racist white-boy-needed-to-keep-gpa up comments, Polson had the lowest GPA of the players (3.0).
If Kyle didn’t step up and take over the team last season when he had the perfect opportunity, what makes you think he’ll do so elsewhere?
I may be biased because I go to Stanford, but I’m all about seeing Wiltjer in that Cardinal red next year! Come on down!
Wont he have to sit out for the 2014-2015 season till his Senior year???
IGNORE MY PREVIOUS STATEMENT… MESSED UP MY YEARS THERE LOL
Cal went to the NIT many times while at Memfrica.
Don’t recall the Bat Cats ever making a lot of noise unless it’s producing overrated MLB players like Austin Kearns.
UL was tied late in the second half against one of the best UK teams of all time and absolutely killed them on the boards. That wasn’t one of UL’s best teams.
Kyle Wiltjer will be a Kyle Korver type player for Gonzaga or Oregon. He’ll also be a spot up three point specialist in the NBA like Korver and Steve Novak to make teams pay for double teaming their star player. There’s a role for him.
The UK team GPA will also take a hit with Wiltjer leaving. I don’t think you’ll see Cal recruit white players going forward unless they’re in-state fill the end of the bench victory cigar types.
Why not just redshirt? Work on your body. Then return in 2014 after the mass exodus and be a star on that team. Call Jeff Shepherd please.
Yea! Redshirt! UK is the best NBA prep factory.
Redshirt would be smart. Imagine a year of practice against Randle, Dakari, Poythress. That’s the only way Kyle will get NBA ready in the defensive end.
Dude must’ve loved the spotlight this summer. Get used to it dude. Your career for the next 20 yrs is role player. Might as well refine your craft.
I love Kyle, but my thing is this: I got severely frustrated this previous season because it became obvious that when he was playing “defense” and I use that term loosely, the opposing teams were being coached to take to him and I swear to God I can personally defend a ballhandler better than Kyle Wiltjer. I would be thrilled if in the end he chooses to stay but that feeling is only fueled by nostalgia of him being a part of that magical class 2 years ago that won it all.
We have the greatest recruiting class of all time coming in, guys. He’s transferring because he literally has no role anymore. We’ll have shooters, and they’ll be able to play D too. Good luck Kyle.
Alex P. graduated high school with honors in the Advanced Program so you UofL fans just go on with your bad selves. He has ALWAYS excelled in the classroom.
As for Kyle, I’ll support any decision he makes but Gonzaga most always makes the tournament.
why not win another championship
#99) I figured you’d deflect. Pitino has been to the NIT twice coaching your team. Cal has been to one NIT coaching my team. My point is it happens.
I did find out that UL has been to 2 college world series in their history. That’s awesome.
Charlie Strong lead UL to a 7-6 season just 2 years ago. That’s fantastic. I’ll consider the Steve Kragthorpe year’s similarly to the Joker Phillips tenure. Just not good.
That UL team that UK beat twice including in the final 4 was a very similar team to the NC team that just won by having an easy path to the finals. Congrats for the championship. Can’t argue that, but it’s hard for you to have any credibility when you’re trying to argue things based on 1 year, when historically UL is an average program. I guess that’s all you have though. What’s next, we compare Cheerleading?
Give Cal longer at UK and we’ll compare records since you don’t want to take into account his record at Memfrica littered with NIT berths. Kragthorpe had a better record than Joker if you can believe that.
110- Was that in the mighty Conference USA? Or the Big Least…..? Cuz, I mean, when I think football, those two powerhouse conferences immediately spring to mind.
I like how UL trolls on about how bad UK football is and espn yesterday on Gameday said the best team UL plays this year in football is UK . I guess that makes your argument or how shitty UL football schedule is.
We’ll kick some SEC teams ass in a BCS bowl game again.
@95 I totally agree, been saying same thing since yesterday. Cal gave Wiltjer the chance this past year and it didn’t work. Kyle’s poor defense and rebounding affected his shooting. I love KW and wish him the best but its not that big of a deal with him leaving. He totally stunk it up on the court last year.
HEY, MR W. YOU ARE MY HERO. RED SHIRT AND RET.TO THE CATS. BBN LOVES YOU. GOD BLESS YOU AND MAKE A GOOD FAMILY DECISION…
Kyle should stay and continue his quest for more NC’s wearing the Blue/White. If his heart is really in Kentucky that is.
Gonzaga should be Kyle’s new home.
Who cares? Kid isn’t going to be a cat… if he doesn’t want to be here then I could care less where he ends up. I don’t get these types of posts, same w/ Wiggins. Either you are on the train or on the tracks… unfortunately the train seems to be moving too fast for Kyle. Sad, liked him while he was here.
Well said #118!!!
Would like to see him at UK. But, Gonzaga seems to be the best fit and I think he would be comfortable there.
C’mon Kyle, come back to papa. Ill get you another nice shiny ring.
You know what “soft” players do when competition gets tougher? They tuck tail and run! That’s exactly what’s happening here. If you don’t want to compete, c-ya Kyle. Good luck reaching the NBA with that kind of mindset.
“Louisville women’s bball team loses to UCONN in NC game
UK women’s bball team loses in Elite Eight”
Do you realize how little sense this makes? It was UCONN that UK lost to in the Elite 8…lucky Louisville for meeting them later in the tournament.
“Gman Says:

The UK team GPA will also take a hit with Wiltjer leaving. I don’t think you’ll see Cal recruit white players going forward unless they’re in-state fill the end of the bench victory cigar types.”
Doubt it, as Wiltjer was just one of many players with a solid GPA – as was already posted above:
http://ksr.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/BNXWPwNCAAAfE21.jpg-large.jpeg
What’s with all of the racism out of you Louisville fans’ comments anyway?
“UL was in the Final Four for two straight years with one NC, not a first rd NIT defeat to a mid major.”
We were also in the Final Four two straight years and won an NC (our 8th) and in one of the Final Fours, defeated Louisville to advance.
You have a very selective memory.
Dee W., that’s because Cardinals have a bird brain.
Wiltjer should go to Stanford for the education – or Gonzaga for the love of basketball.
He is going to end up at Standford
Edit that Stanford
1 UK, Duh.
2 Gonzaga, Maybe his best chance for personal success.
3 Texas, Plenty of chances to win big games on the big stage. Beat Kansas.
