Wildcat Lodge to be torn down soon

They say all good dormitories for great basketball players must come to an end, and the Joe B. Hall Wildcat Lodge is no exception. The house that held UK’s basketball players from 1978 through the 2012 NCAA Champions will be torn down next month to make way for Phase II-A of UK’s privatized housing plan. 34 years of memories, from Brett Bearup sneaking in pizza to John Wall sneaking in sorority girls, will disappear into the empty sky like ghosts in the night as the lodge is demolished.
I hope the the bulldozer’s operator isn’t a Kentucky fan, and if he is, he’s a bigger man than me. I couldn’t do it.
Take us back, Chuck…

Let’s hear more about this Wall sneaking in sorority girls thing…
Do the women basketball players just live in regular dorms? Someone told me they were living in the old Wildcat Lodge since the guys moved, but obviously that is incorrect.
Sad…just don’t tell me Tolly-Ho will leave S. Limestone…what??…
Matt you need new writers. How many non-news stories have we had today?
This is revolting. What’s more is this demolition project is an indicator of how far Mitch Barnhart and Eli Castrato have strayed from Kentucky’s true identity. Wildcat Lodge is more than some all-access YouTube video for fan sites like KSR post on a slow day. Wildcat Lodge is a shrine to our basketball heritage and true UK fans must demand its preservation. Where are all the hippies on this one? An actual landmark of great historic value to one of Kentucky’s primary brands reduced to a new dorm room that furthers a ridiculous agenda to increase all ready substantial costs on Kentucky’s students. Step up BBN; do not let this destruction happen.
Wildcat Lodge has seen more arse than the front seat of an Avis.
Brassowwwwwwww!!!
ugh, I was hoping we’d heard the last from Bob Sugar. First Old School came back to be his annoying self, now Bob.
They should take it down carefully(piece by piece), cut it up & sell the pieces like they did the championship floor.

For all the sentimental value, this building was also the source of negative recruiting against UK for years….just sayin
I would definitely buy Antoine Barbour’s bed.
You forgot about the nightly sackloads of Tolly-Ho tossed through my window.
RIP friend. If only we could talk, oh the stories we could tell.
8 – I agree completely, and #4 is not much better.
Hope they call a plumber first, heard a lot of pipe was laid there.
15) yeah bigbluejon is creeping up there with old_school and sugar in the annoyance scale. Those 3 should team up and start their own uk blog. Maybe they could hire Tipton as a writer lol can you imagine all the hits!!!!!
ha 17, the three of them probably really are just Tipton using a different name.
Nicer than my house, can we just move it? I’ll take it!
yep, that building has made a lot of white girls “never go back”
15 and 17) completely agree with you. I mean, it’s an antiquated dorm. Sure UK players happened to live there, but IT WAS JUST A DORM! Big deal. They now have a much nicer and newer dorm. I’ll tell you what Bob Sugar. I’ll go down there and grab one of the toilets so you can install it so you can tell all your friends you take your craps on the same toilet Mark “the Coury Flurry” did. Maybe even do some upper deckering of your own that would make Shagari proud. Some people need to get a clue. GO CATS!
I just got a chance to watch the first All Access KY show on DVR last night – they put the team at “Wildcat Cole Lodge” in the graphic. Who’s Cole?
They should have given it to the women’s team.
The tour of wildcat lodge looked like the place to be in 1989. Big screen TV’s were the latest technology.
Great memories of Wildcat Lodge Haunted House…..Kyle Macy as Dracula!!! Best Halloween Ever.
Yep.I’m old.
The real reason they needed to build a new players’ dorm was that they didn’t have space for all of the NBA jerseys on display.
#22 its Coal not Cole, named after a resource not a person
28 we all know that, except apparently ESPN. As 22 said, the show said Wildcat Cole Lodge. ESPN is the world wide leader in typos.
Entered UK as a freshman in 1978 and lived in a house next door to it for a couple of years, so I’ve been around that building for the whole deal and am a bit sentimental about it being demolished.
I agree that some elements of it should be preserved for historical reasons (UK Museum perhaps?) and portions of the interior could be auctioned off for charity. The fireplace made of coal, for example, which has a story related to the coal operators that contributed to this building, should be preserved.
Also think now that Coach Mitchell has raised UK Hoops to national prominence that they should have their own Lodge. Maybe not identical to the men’s building but comparable to what the best women’s teams in the nation have at least for recruiting purposes.
#2 – The women’s team used to live right across the street from Wildcat Lodge in Blazer hall, which was a regular all female dorm at that time. Not sure if it still is, and I’m not sure if they still live there. But they were still there as of 2005ish.
It’s just an old dorm; and an ugly one at that. I’m glad they replaced it and happy to see it go.
Onward and upward.
I heard the women’s team didn’t want to stay there even if it was renovated. They apparently live at the Lex off campus.
