University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Wildcat Coal Lodge Progress

So, we told you about this before, but the Wildcat Coal Lodge is taking shape further.  Construction is continuing, and Coach Cal is more than happy to keep you updated on it.  In fact, you should check out this picture gallery from to see more photos from the Wildcat Coal Lodge scene. The Lodge will open in 2012, with next year’s recruiting class featuring Archie Goodwin being the first freshman to live here.

You think Cal is out there selling the new facilities to the other 2012 recruits he’s trying to secure a committment from?  Of course he is, not that UK needed any extra help recruiting the best of the best.  The new housing building for the basketball team will be full of state of the art furnishings and adornments, along with gifts for the players such as free video games, gold watches, on-call escorts, platinum grillz, and an on-site tattoo parlor!  JUST KIDDING, who do you think we are, UofL?  #ButtHurtt

Why!?!? Why do we have to build this god darn thing? We need to put this money in football. If the football program gets half the funds that the bball program does were at least an ole miss or a tennessee. Was in FloraBama this summer and saw a UK fan wearing his blue. An LSU and Alabama fan walk by him and yell “hey blue… if your be in the SEC, why don’t you act like it”? I went up to the Ky fan later and asked him if he heard what the guys said and he asked me he didn’t understand what they were talking about. I explained, they were basically asking why don’t we play football if were in the SEC. Guy say… “oh”

You’d think a coal lodge would either:
    a) be built entirely of coal, or
    b) be built entirely underground

#2, Basketball is almost a self sustained program at UK due to the amount of money it brings in, and did you not notice the article Drew wrote about money spending on football. We have spent an immense amount of money on football, the only difference is that where Tennessee and Ole Miss have recruiting grounds in a lot more places than UK and theyre traditionally a football school, we have never been one. Get with the program, we r not wining national championships in football.

UK and maybe Vandy to some degree are the only schools in the SEC that give a flying turd about basketball. Moneys in football and money is what makes the world go around. You can be good in both as some schools have proven (eg. texas, ohio st). Why we have to spend every dollar on a sport that makes one-quarter of UK Athletics gross annual revenue is beyond me. Any good business man would put his money into the cash cow… football. This is why UK Athletics is one of the poorest in the SEC.

4… “UT and Ole Miss have recruiting grounds in more places than UK”. You’re right, but why is that? Its because money is being spent. If we build it they will come!

“If you build it they will come”? If you are talking about a new basketball arena I agree, if you are talking about a new football arena you don’t have a clue.

I cheer for Uk football just as much as the next guy, as long as the next guy isn’t this “IloveUKFootball” person but I dont care about the money aspect. UK is all about basketball. I dont care if the basketball team lives in a mansion and the football players live in Haggin Hall.

5…..It’s a circle….you have to win to bring fans to the games, fans bring the money in, money is spent to improve the program, which leads to more wins. You aren’t going to win in the SEC and bring in fans if you continue to call the same plays that we currently are over and over again…until the play on the field improves…we build things for our successful teams.

Money didn’t cause the receivers to drop all those passes.
Money didn’t make the joker make those bad play calls.

Basketball at UK is fun. And everyone who is a UK fan loves it for the mere fact that we dominate. Lord knows I love it. But face it, 80% of the rest of the country couldn’t care less about how good their basketball team is – except for NCAA tourney time perhaps. To them it is maybe a notch above keeping up with the volleyball team or something like that.

We need to at least appear to take football seriously, especially if it is paying the bills for everything else. I promise you if we could ever win in football we couldn’t build a staduim big enough for all the fans that would want to come.

Finally, to be brutally honest, football as a sport in general is superior to basketball. Just sayin.

    11. money will replace the bad coaching that is causing dropped passes and bad play calls. No the coach didn’t drop the pass but the coach doesn’t seem to be fixing it either.

UK will be good at football when they get a coach who can bring in recruits and ‘out-coach’ some of these SEC guys.

The University has put no money into the new BB facilities. Basketball has the big donors, Big Coal and other businesses. This is private $$$ not UK $$$. Football brings in a lot of $$$ to UK because the SEC shares revenue. We get some of the $$$ the big football schools bring in. The big football schools in the SEC get their $$$ for facilities from big private donors who are more supportive of football than basketball.

Remember guys, football brings in twice as much as basketball revenue each year. Most of the basketball funds are private donations.
My question is what happens to the old lodge?

Anyone who ever refers to this as the Wildcat Coal Lodge should be summarily executed. OK, maybe that’s a bit strident, but it should always be referred to as the Joe B. Hall Wildcat Lodge.

#12..couldn’t agree more..just wish someone at KENTUCKY could get a vision of this and make it happen..#14..Sammy, please tell me who KENTUCKY’S big donors are for fb..Hell even Louseyville has more funding that we and don’t have a third of the fan base..It’s all about corporate dollars and KENTUCKY has NO big donors on the level of even Louseyville.. especially for fb…If Louseyville were in the sec I would GUARANTEE you Jurich would come up with the money to see to it that BOTH his bb and fb coaches had the facilities to compete in the league…

9.. its fans that you that cause the problem to persist. You don’t care about money, the problem is that everyone else does. Unfortunitly money makes the world go round and UK will not be any good until serious football investments are made. It really doesn’t matter what YOU think.

Maybe a jail is appropriate. It should be illegal to take SEC money when you do nothing to help create it in the first place. That money comes from eyeballs on TVs watching football. We might actually be causing that number to be less than it otherwise would be.
