Who’s watching whom today

With the July Evaluation Period well underway, the UK Basketball staff is spread out across the country to evaluate the nation’s top prospects. Where are they, exactly? Glad you asked.

Malik Newman

Peach Jam

After watching Rashad Vaughn, Emmanuel Mudiay, and Josh Perkins last night at the Breakout Classic in Philadelphia, John Calipari and Kenny Payne are now in Augusta for the Peach Jam. First on the docket? Watching 2015 point guard Malik Newman, who is apparently making the most of his opportunity and dazzling the coaches with drives and threes. Newman has an offer from the Cats, and is considered the best player in the 2015 class by Rivals. Coming up later today: Tyus Jones, Jahlil Okafor, Cliff Alexander and more.

Who’s on “Coaches’ Row”? Cal is sitting next to Larry Brown and Roy Williams, who Matt reports is wearing pink. Our ace photographer Drew Franklin also sent this picture of Cal walking by Matt during the show:

Drew reports that Cal came up to him and teased that he almost wore the infamous flowery linen shirt he wore to the Yankees game last weekend. That would give Roy’s a run for it’s money, wouldn’t it?

adidas Invitational

Meanwhile, Orlando Antigua is in Indianapolis for the adidas Invitational. The top prospects he’s seen so far include 2015 center Stephen Zimmerman and 2014 big man Goodluck Okonoboh. Zimmerman got an offer from the Cats recently, while Kentucky has held off on offering Okonoboh, whom many consider a Duke lean. Last night, Antigua watched 2014 PF Craig Victor, who is still waiting on an offer from the Cats, and 2015 PF Carlton Bragg.

More to come throughout the day.
