Please don’t make it Carruth!
With Josh Pastner’s exit from the John Calipari staff earlier this week to become the successor to his former boss’ empire at Memphis, a spot has opened up on the UK coaching staff along Calipari holdovers Orlando Antigua and John Robic. With Rod Strickland expected to continue his Basketball Operations duties for Calipari, the question remains: Who will fill the final assistant spot?
The whispers on the streets are that it will be someone with UK ties – most likely a former player – and the names of Kyle Macy and Scott Padgett are being strongly whispered. Nothing against Mr. Macy, but I’m rooting for Padgett to get the nod. Not only does he have the support of Rob Gidel (a deciding factor for me), but Padgett would also vacate his morning television show with Dave Ragone. Should Padgett get the coaching job, I’ll be starting an online rumor campaign that I’m a candidate to replace him on the show until the powers that be actually think it’s true and give me an interview. This face deserves to be on TV.
But, what say you? If you’re going to put someone on Calipari’s staff with UK ties, who would it be? And, if it’s not Padgett, you better be prepared for me to be publically disappointed – unless you’re supporting Thad Jaracz. That guy doesn’t get enough respect.
