There are lots of special moments in life. Times that you reflect on all the good in the world and times that you make memories to last a lifetime. The first annual Kentucky Sports Radio White Castle Challenge at the University of Kentucky game this weekend was one of them. In front of a densely packed crowd, seven contestants, including our very own Hubby (the guy in the white hat), attempted to eat 20 White Castle hamburgers in the quickest amount of time. It was a great event with some great contestants. But in the end, the winner was named simply “Dave”. “Dave”, whose last name is unknown, came to the contest on his lunch break from Valvoline, and taunted the opposition, eating the 20 burgers as if they were nothing. Some called Dave simply a showboat as he had such a big lead that he began using condiments with his burgers and dancing in the final moments. The other competitors could do nothing but admire his talents as they fought gamely to simply not throw up.
Second place went to Asbury college student Jeremy Duncan, who ate his 20 burgers in 14 minutes, just three minutes behind Dave. When Dave finished his burgers, he taunted the field more by CONTINUING eating burgers just for the fun of it. Dave is the Peyton Manning of this competition and the fans were simply amazed by his talents. Our own Hubby did well, eating 16 burgers before the end of the competition. He had a unique strategy, attempting to eat the bottom half of the sandwich only and then taking all the top buns and making them into a huge, disgusting ball which he finished with. It was a strategy that made him a solid middle of the pack performer.
All in all a great time and the photos are below. We want to thank the folks at Wildcatnation.net who helped with the setup, the members of the ATO fraternity at UK who were their to support their boy Evan Woolums and all the Kentucky Sports Radio fans who came out in droves. It was a good time and we look forward to having a similar event during basketball season.
And in this picture, the contestants are truly feeling the effects of eating all those burgers:
