Where’s Pitino?

It’s been a strange run for the Louisville coach since his team bowed out to Michigan State in the Elite 8. It all started with rumors of an exit to take the Sacramento Kings job and then transitioned to the extortion case, the seemingly sudden departure of his son to Florida, the de-commitment of Justin Martin and departure of Jeremy Tyler to Europe. But, besides his statement regarding the extortion case, Pitino has been uncharacteristically silent since March. Deadly silent, in fact. For a guy who has always been so engaging with the media and never seemed to be short of words, it sets off the red flag of abnormality a bit. When you consider that a new outspoken rival just moved to town, it would seem that the siren is blaring.

Now, we’re starting to hear that Pitino has cancelled his camp for kids that he was set to hold this summer which, again, seems a little strange. The only public appearance I’m aware of Pitino making this summer (and I could be completely wrong on this) was his appearance alongside Billy Donovan at Dicky V’s Gala last month. Since then, he’s been popping up more around the Sunshine State than he has in the Bluegrass and, outside of allowing Ralph Willard take nearly a decade to accept a spot on the bench, hasn’t appeared to be too engaged with the Cards.  That’s not Rick Pitino.

Maybe he’s just clearing his head and taking a break after years of going full steam. Maybe he needs to just get away from the legal insanity in Louisville. I’m not sure, it just feels odd.  However, I would like to use this forum to request that he stay away from Tropicana Field from now on. It’s not big enough for the both of us.
