What’s your NFL Persuasion?

As the reality of life after college is becoming painfully more ominous with every day that passes, I find myself scrambling to find a respectable summer internship. I’ve been interviewing with some sports marketing companies and one of the first question everybody asks is, “Who are your teams?” Now, I can extoll upon the perfect love I have for UK football and basketball until I’m blue in the face, but the companies I’m talking to are based in Chicago. This isn’t a college sports town by any stretch of the imagination. What these people really know and can speak with the best on is the professional game.
I’ve casually followed baseball and hockey and if I have a team in either it would be the Cubs and Blackhawks, respectively, due solely to the fact that I’m in Chicago and it’s what they have on TV. When I talk NBA, I revert to my roots and say that I follow and support for former UK players, which I think is something that most of us do. The one that generates the most conversation though, is the topic of NFL interests in Kentucky. I personally am a Bengals fan because that’s who I watched on TV and while it’s more difficult to find the games online here, I still make an effort to watch every one. I don’t think that’s the logic that most UK fans follow though.
I know there are a few Bengals fans among you and a few Titans fans due to proximity, but what’s your logic otherwise? Do you follow the teams that have former UK players? The Packers have a couple former Cats and we’ve talked a lot about the Broncos now that they’ve drafted Danny Trevathan but let me know who your team is and why. I’m curious to see what kind of spread Big Blue Nation occupies in the world of professional football.

Titans! Home team! I like the direction we’re headed. Go Titans!!!
Titans as well for me. But if Los Angeles were to get a team i could potentially switch.
Washington Redskins-strange reason, big time football card collector when I was a kid and the Redskins just happened to be the team I had the most cards of. I have stuck with them for over 30 years through good times and now extremely bad! Go RGIII!!!
Packers for me because of Tim. Played club soccer with him in high school and went to UK during the same time as him. If he moves teams I’ll change my fanhood as well.
I used to like the Dolphins and Bears as a little kid. Moved to Atlanta at 13 yrs old. Now I could care less about any other team but the Falcons.
Tennessee Titans and St.Louis Rams
By the way SUCK IT SAINTS.
GO BILLS!!!!
my best friend growing up was from Buffalo…
Broncos, now that they’re playing with a quarterback. The Packers for Cobb.
I am Detroit and New York fan. Detroit because my dad grew up right outside of detroit!! Giants because I just love it there!!
Bengals
STEELERS!! I am from Pittsburgh–Black and Gold forever…
America’s Team!
My fantasy team!
I have always been a huge Packers fan. Mostly because of Brett Farve back in the day. The reason was the Packers were one of the top passing teams when I was young and just getting into video games heavily. I ran an impossible-to-stop passing game as a young buc. I was still a huge Favre fan after he left, but remained true to the Packers. Adding Randall Cobb definately solidified my fanhood.
Houston Texans with the Denver Broncos a close second
“Just Win Baby”
Oakland Raiders !
Steelers!!!! Then I root for the former UK players to well.
Saints, through good times and bad. BTW, Steelers fan, that’s black and YELLOW.
No sighted person on earth calls that GOLD!
Trivia: The Saints colors’ are black and gold because Mr. Dixon who
started the team was an oil man. “Black Gold”. S’true!
I also follow UK players wherever they go. And Tebow. Which
is a bummer cause I just hate the Jets!
My second favorite football team is ANYBODY WHO BEATS THE FALCONS!!!!!
Who-Dey!
Raiders fan…always have been. My dad watched them in the 70s and loved there style of play. Hes watxhed em ever since and so have I.
Cincinnati Bengals. In Northern Kentucky Bengals, Reds, and Cats are all parts of the well-rounded fan’s way of life.
Bengals!
#13 exactly lol
My teams is my fantasy team and the pack cuz of randall
Titans. Unleash the LOCKER
Dallas Cowboys all the way!!
Titans through and through. I haop J. Locket turns out to be a legit qb.
3.) i love it when people have obscurr reasons for liking teams but always stick with them.
Who Cares!
Green Bay Packers! ‘Nuff said.
Grew up watching the Dallas Cowboys with my grandpa, I’ve got season tix with the Chiefs since KC’s been home for over 10 years, and I root for the Packers based on tradition, and the Missus cheers for them too. Although, watching the Chiefs beat her Packers last season was pretty sweet.
Cowboys and Packers. Cowboys cause they’re my home team and Packers mainly because of Tim but also because of Cobb
Team: Broncos
Reason: Peyton Manning
Cleveland Browns- I started liking them when they got Couch and just stuck with them once Couch left.
Washington
ahhh, Bucs Baby!
Kansas City Chiefs. I was a Cowboys fan until they fired Tom Landry
Vikings. Randy moss
32. Do you have a little indian in u….nevermind.
Team: Patriots
Reason: ‘Murican!!!
Enough already!
21 is right on the money: NKY loves the Cats, Reds, and Bengals. I am no different, but I do go out of my way to root AGAINST the Steelers, Ravens, and Browns. HATE them.
Live in Kentucky since I was 2 but was born in Spokane, WA so Seahawks fan! Pumped to finally have a UK player on the team
KSR should put up a poll asking which MLB, NFL, and NBA teams UK fans prefer. There was a lot of debate when the Reds honored UK…it’d be nice to put the debate to rest somewhat (assuming people don’t delete cookies and revote multiple times)
Steelers! When I first started watching the NFL in the 70’s the 2 teams always on were the Steelers or the Cowboys. Wasn’t about to be a Cowboy’s fan…..
Saints — they hate dirty birds
Big Blue Nation and Steeler Nation. Coincidence. I think not. It’s be fun to follow the two most successful teams in all of sports. Hope they get #7 to go with cat’s #8, and #9…
I’m witcha nolablue
BEARS BABY!!!!
21 said said it all.
Bengals fan here for probably as long as they have existed. I always thought it was weird for anyone to like anyone else but the Bengals. Everyone I knew loved the Reds but very few liked the Bengals for some reason. Lately I like watching New England,Packers and Broncos. New England because I love the Tom Brady story ,Packers because of Cobb and Matsay and Broncos because of Tebow, and Woodyard.
Tennessee Titans because they are the closest team to us in Western KY. Green Bay is 2nd because of the UK players there and the fact that they are owned by the fans and have great tradition.
Steelers. They are the best..just like my Cats. Plus they are Cal’s team (don’t listen to the I also pull for the Bengals political BS from Cal). 2 nations: Big Blue, Steelers
Denver I was a big Colts fan and when Peyton was out I started pulling for Denver so it all worked out for me!! Go broncs!!!!
COWBOYS thru and thru…began watching as an 8 yr old in ’77 season w/Dorsett, Staubach, Drew Pearson, Butch Johson, etc. and have been a diehard fan ever since. Troy Aikman, a 3-time Super Bowl winning QB who still may be 1 of the most underated QBs ever, my all-time favorite player. May be 1 of the few people who actually likes Jerry Jones…and Tony Romo for that matter. After the ‘Boys, it’s all about the teams w/UK players…GB, Denver, Buffalo w/Stevie!!
bengals
Packers. And unlike all of the idiot “Stiller” fans out there, I am aware of who has the best NFL tradition and championships. Packers with 13. Cats will be there soon enough.
Eagles. The TO McNabb combo sucked me in an ive been a huge fan ever since.
Through 54 comments, I calculated these numbers & yes…I may have missed something. Heck, had to read a couple comments twice to go thru a list people cite as teams and the reasons…but anyway if you are interested:
Packers 8
Bengals 6
Steelers 5
Titans 4
Broncos 3
Cowboys 3
Me? I’m not a true fan of any and like a few…
Became a Browns fan when cousin Tim was drafted.. but I follow the Packers in the NFC, moreso now that Cobb plays for them, but I like that they’re the last publically owned team.
56-thanks ridge and if you are off it at least gave us an idea.
i like the patriots just because i have followed them since they had drew bledsoe and made it to the super bowl. so, I have hung in there with them through spygate, superbowls, and the hard losses especially losing to the Giants the first time as it took our undefeated season away. that hurt.
Raiders.
Basically decided I was going to be a Raider fan when I was like eight, and have been one ever since.
The bungles got votes? Must of been parents or relatives.
Hail to the redskins, Hail victory
Carolina Panthers! Have been a fan ever since they became an NFL team
49ers
can we subtract one from pissburgh if we have commenters say they hate them because they’re a bunch of cheapshot, bush league punks … and of course, OF COURSE … they drafted chris “it’s time to die” rainey, he’ll fit right in
NY Football Giants! I am from Louisville and grew up watching Phil Simms. Found out last year my mom worked with his sister and she was able to get him to sign my jersey. He also gave me a signed card he had on hand. I am glad I picked them, because of the tradition and the great legacy the owners of the Giants have left on the NFL.
49ers..loved growing up watching Jerry Rice killing it with Montana/Young. Rice is up there with Jordan for one of the best players of all time in all sports
Steelers most Super Bowls wins, most playoff wins, most games won since the modern era (1970 when the afl-nfl merged), highest winning percentage in modern era. The Steelers are the Kentucky Wildcats of professional football. The stats don’t lie. Suck it Cowboy fans.
TITANS! Live near enough to go to the games & follow them all the time.
Falcons till i die and to be a fan, you have came near death. But they are my team.
Redskins…my Dad grew up around DC and has been fan since then. I was raised in it.
Bengals are my first team. I’ve also been a Colts fan since back when Harbaugh was there, but I’ve had enough of them. I might root Broncos now. I’ve also rooted for the Packers on and off, and whoever is playing against the Patriots, the Steelers or the Ravens. Or against the Cowboys.
From all the way back to Super Bowl 1 … the Packers. In the AFC I have always liked the Chiefs.
Atlanta Falcons because of my dad following them, I grew close to them
(56) hey you forgot my Lions and Giants
These are what I got through 56 posts
1st) Green Bay Packers – 10
2nd) Cincinnati Bengals – 8
3rd) Denver Broncos – 6
4th) Tennessee Titans – 5
Pittsburgh Steelers -5
5th) Dallas Cowboys – 4
6th) Washington Redskins – 2
Oakland Raiders -2
Buffalo Bills – 2
New Orleans Saints – 2
Kansas City Chiefs – 2
New England Patriots – 2
Their Fantasy Teams -2
7th) Atlanta Falcons – 1
St. Louis Rams – 1
Detroit Lions – 1
New York Giants – 1
Houstan Texans – 1
Cleveland Browns -1
Tampa Bay Bucs – 1
Minnesota Vikings – 1
Seattle Seahawks – 1
Chicago Bears – 1
Philadelphia Eagles – 1
This is what I got, sorry if I spelled anything wrong.
Big Blue Nation = 23 different teams, 24 if you count the two fantasy teams. HAHA
Go CATS!!!
tenn titans since I was a kid. not that old now haha but like some of you, my chuldhood started it all.
I grew up a big Bengals fan, but living out of state for 10 years and 20 years of them sucking has killed that in me. I will never lose all my feelings for them, but I will never be a big fan either. The only NFL hat I own is the Saints, purchased about four years before their Super Bowl. I like them because; 1) they are a Southern team, and 2) I like the mentality in the gulf coast/deep South better than Charlotte, Atlanta, Nashville, etc. And, yes, I actually do get out of the French Quarter when I go to N.O.
73, we could all count this thing 5 times and come up with different numbers probably. but I do appreciate you and ridge working up what you did as it does give us an idea as someone else put it.
Falcons! I will not abandon them although it has been difficult as a fan.
74 I meant. sorry
Who Dey!
Hard for many of us to count northern ky as part of our state. They have gotten cin-cinn-ati-ized and have the yankee thing going on. sad.
Anyway, since they are an extention of Cincy…it’s like asking a cincy fan who is favorite team is. they should be excluded.
DA BEARS…..Reason: Walter “Sweetness” Payton
80) true dat!
Falcons! The super bowl trip was what did it as a sorry team through the 70’s made it. Came up short but it shows Anything is possible.
Bengals
Rams
The Steelers’ have the most fans in Kentucky. Period. End of story. Walk into any sports bar in Kentucky on NFL Sunday and you’ll see more Steelers’ fans there than any other team. Any other assertion is nothing much than fan foolishness.
“TITANS”
Cowboys all the way. Grew up watching America’s team and the triplets (Smith, Aikman, and Irving) We had the 70’s, 90’s, and now are about to start another dynasty in the 10’s.
I went to high sch with Peyton so I WAS as colts fan for the last 14 yes, but now, GO BRONCS! Man is gonna be weird seeing him in blue and orange
Bengals. Area. Playing style. Players. Mike Zimmer. 7th best defense in the nfl. Plus we have dequin evans and micah Johnson.
I will always hate the expansion Cleveland Browns & their fatass dog fans for the way they treated Couch. Cleveland sucks!
Bears fan since second grade . Growing up in the ’80s in Paducah they were technically the closest team, and one of the best teams…so they were probably the most televised team where I lived. Thought Mike Singletary was the baddest man on the planet, then Sweetness & ‘The Super Bowl Shuffle’ sealed the deal.
Redskins MY dads liked them. Best memories growing up was watching the skins with dad and learning how to keep score during UK games. I don’t know if anyone e en keeps score during UK games anymore.
Patriots. My step brother was always a bills fan and the first NFL game I remember was the patriots beating the bills
Jacksonville, spent a good portion of my life there from the time I was born
Saints to the death. But Bengals otherwise due to proximity.
49ers ride or die
since 1970, but never enough to wear cheese on my head.
AFC team is Bengals. I think Cincy is a unique sports city…and way more Kentucky than some mush-mouthed southern-minded people want to admit. NFC team is Packers. A good, honest, hard working franchise with loyal and passionate fans. Packers are Kentucky basketball in my eyes.
80 – a lot of us NKY people are transplants from other parts of Ky. I’m from a town about half an hour from Tennessee. Here is the sad news for you: Ky isn’t southern and it isn’t Yankee. If you think NKY is Yankee, then 1) you probably think the same of UK/Lexington/Louisville and 2) You need to get out of the house more often.
Panthers since day 1. I always loved football, but never really had a team. So when the Panthers and Jaguars started thier expansion teams in the 90’s, I went all in on the Panthers. Now CAM is the man!
Bengals. I grew up in Eastern Kentucky and now live in Lexington. It’s always been Cats, Reds and Bengals for me. I like the direction of all my teams right now except for UK football.
This post is ridiculous. People actually like the Steelers? What a joke. Dallas Cowboys. America’s Team. Deal with it.
Yeah, Packers/Cobb…Not a true Pro fan (until playoffs) but watch Wizards/Wall (all season).. (etc…Boogie/Kings…we all love our Cats!!!!!!!!!!
NFL is just too boring for me. Not enough action. Give me basketball, baseball, or soccer.
Texans! #BullsOnParade
104…you’re in the minority on that one. Like, pacific islander or native american minority or a box no one checks on demographics. Smh
Been a Lions fan my entire life. Grew up in the D with Barry Sanders. Now the Lions just need to draft some UK players. Haven’t been any there since Artose Pinner.
We didn’t watch football much in my house when I was a kid. If we did, it was usually the Bears, but I was never really a fan. Moved to Baltimore when they didn’t have a team and now have become a big Ravens fan(and season ticket owner).
BENGALS
Reason: from NKY (Cats, Bengals, Reds)
Steelers since I started watching the NFL in the mid-70’s. Tons of Steeler fans in KY.
This is just stupid. What you’re wanting is an reply good enough to steal, so that when this question comes up again, you’ve got your little ready-made answer. Dumbocrat loser……….
49ers are always 1st in my book. But on the rise are my new team, Carolina, led by my man Cam Newton. Everyone get yourself some Cammy Cam Juice, tracy wolfson loved it!
Steelers because I honestly didn’t care for the NFL until I went to college in Pittsburgh. Just like I like the Washington Capitals cause I didn’t care about hockey until I moved to Dc, and I like the Trailblazers since I moved to Portland.
Steelers! I grew up in Western PA (just like coach Cal!) and my uncle works for Franco Harris. I told my dad that I liked the Oilers when i was 6 and he told me I might need to find a new place to live. If I had to pick a second team it would be the Packers since they are publically owned. I will at times root for the Bengals, but only because I taught DeQuin Evans at UK and he was a really solid kid (who was much bigger than me).
Bengals since birth. Parents are fans. Same goes for the Reds!
Black n Gold, baby! Steeler Nation! Plus….because I have a number of friends in Wisconsin who are fans, I also root for Green Bay. It helps immensely that they have Cobb and Masthay.
Who Dat Nation
I live in Paducah, KY & am proud to be a Steelers fan!! Gonna miss Hines Ward though.
Wonder if the Ravens grabbed Cobb late secound round instead of Torrey Smith how many Ravens fans would be on here. #thuggth
Born & Raised in Pittsburgh, PA. HERE WE GO STEELERS!!!!
49ERS, Jerry Rice one of the best to ever play the game. Super Bowl Champs this year. Watch and see.
Whoever is playing the Bears or Steelers.
If you root for either of these two teams, you need help.
Steelers
Who Dey?!? BENGALS
