What’s that? Another positive story about UK and academics?

Jodie Meeks is one of those players who will always have an odd relationship with Cats fans.  He had two so-so years in Lexington before EXPLODING for one of the 5 best individual seasons in UK history his junior year.  But unfortunately for Jodie, the team stunk for most of that year, along with the decline of Billy Gillispie, so he really didn’t get enough fan fare for what he was doing.  Then Meeks chose to go to the NBA, rather than come back and play on Calipari’s first team, and many fans have argued Meeks would have made that team a national champion.

But, Meeks has made a big name for himself for the Philadelphia 76ers and now is doing something very cool that many former players for all schools don’t do: return to get his degree.  And he isn’t finishing in Philadelphia.  Meeks is coming back to Lexington to get his degree from the University of Kentucky.  The Courier-Journal had an article 5 or 6 years ago detailing how many former local players (UK, UL, and IU) actually held their college degrees, and the numbers and names would blow you away.  The fact that Meeks is choosing to finish says a lot about his character.  So hats off to Jodie Meeks, a UK great and now a man on his way to a college degree.

Jodie is a heck of a ball player but an even better person character wise…he’s always been a hard worker on and off the field…knowing his family this does not surprise me…if we could fill our program with the Meeks, Knights, and Pattersons of the world what could ppl complain about..ooh wait ha
