What Will Be Next For Billy Clyde?

Well Billy Gillispie looks to have finally completed an astonishing fall from grace with the news coming out yesterday that he was no longer involved in day to day operations and not to have contact with his team. In just five years BCG went from one of the hottest up and coming coaches in the country to an impossible hire. With his removal from Texas Tech looking like simply a formality at this point you have to wonder what will come next for Billy Clyde? Here are some of the directions I could see our former coach pursuing:

Reality TV Weight-loss Motivator

Sometimes in life it is all about finding the perfect fit. While coaching hasn’t ended well for Mr. Gillispie he may have a bright future as a reality TV star. I pick Clyde to lead a revival of Celebrity Fit Club, only our former coach won’t be a contestant on the show but instead the head trainer. Reality shows about getting fit all need that one person whose only job is to berate the contestants. I can just see Billy shouting at Meatloaf that he would have made the cut if he had only by 25% tougher. Perhaps in a twist of fate he will belittle Kirstie Alley for eating an entire box of pop-tarts. This new job would allow Billy to continue his abusive ways while still trying to help making people better. Although his diet of nothing but Dr. Pepper may not be the best choice for people trying to lose weight. A near perfect fit for the deranged man.

Bully Beatdown

My favorite scene in Space Jam (besides Jordan’s game winning dunk) is the movie’s end. The Mon-stars realize how much bigger they are than Danny Devito and prepare to unleash vengeance for being forced to harness the powers of Shawn Bradley. I could see a similar fate befalling Gillispie. There is only so much a man can take before he is forced to take action. I could see Kader Tapsoba forcing his former coach to run stairs until he develops stress fractures of his own. Jorts could force his tormenter to spend the day trapped in the bathroom stall. With a ton of division one athletes with a reason to go after him perhaps Clyde next move should be the witness protection program. Revenge may not be the best course of action but there is no denying Billy G deserves some sort of comeuppance.

 V.P. of Marketing

When Bruce Pearl was forced out of the ranks of college athletics he surprised both friends and foes when it was announced he had taken a position as V.P. of marketing for H.T. Hackney. Now Pearl is moving on to be an analyst for ESPN which means his former job has to be open. Perhaps the would like to bring in another disgraced coach to fill that role. Enter Billy Gillispie. While his strengths may not be marketing a program, recruiting, networking, communicating, team building, or bringing an air of excitement he certainly could…. Well he might…. Let’s face it there is probably no job that would work out well for ol’ Clyde.

Sometimes it’s fun to watch a train wreck. Many fans still hold a lot of resentment for Coach Gillispie for the way he treated the legacy of Kentucky basketball and more importantly the way he treated beloved players. In all seriousness I hope Billy can get his life straightened out, seeing someone just ruin themselves may be entertaining but it is also quite sad. Hopefully Gillispie will be able to find something outside of the world of hoops that brings him happiness, because it sure doesn’t look like he will be setting foot on a court anytime soon. What endeavor would you like to see Billy Clyde undertake next?

Honestly I just feel bad for him at this point. I legitimately hope he can find something after all this. I have to believe all these problems shouldn’t be blamed on Billy Gillispie the person but more so on his alcoholism/craziness that is now being exposed to the world.

Lets stop the pile on on BCG… don’t get me wrong I recently started asking my dog if he needed to go take a Gillispie rather than go potty. My point is i don’t like the guy but he’s got some real problems and i don’t see the need to pile on him. he’s burried his mother and his nephew all in about a year. trust me,as someone who has burried his own son, burrying children is no fun. he’s not trying to prolong his firing. he ginuenly does not like the spot light and is more than likely fighting a very very bad case of depression. lets focus on laughing at and making fun of louisville fans, not this guy who is dealing with depression

Billy G chose to be a public figure both here and at TT – and got plenty of your (yes you) money to do it. Being a public figure means just that and publicity is part of the deal. It’s not like he’s off living a life of solitude trying to repair his psyche and doing no harm. He was abusing people right up until the most recent landslide overtook him. I hardly think it’s piling on to make a few jokes at his expense. Ever watch Letterman, John Stewart, Conan, etc? You people need to lighten up!

I agree with most of what I’m reading here, it’s time to let Billy G rest and hopefully at some point heal. Actually, sayin a prayer for him as a person wouldn’t hurt. His problems goes much deeper than just being a basketball coach.

COMPLETELY agree w/ 10. Billy asked for every bit of ridicule he is suffering right now. Anyone that abuses the people he has authority over and survives only because they keep their mouths shut deserves every bit of piling on society can offer. Honestly, I think the guy s/b locked up.

Wonder if you folks ‘blaiming it on the a aa a a alchohol” would be as sympathetic if he had killed someone during one of his binges.

Alcholism does NOT excuse bad behaviour.. ever.

I’m not blaming his “behavior, issues, abuse” on anything. It’s just that I don’t care anymore…he’s gone, fired, fried, over, NO LONGER OUR ISSUE! So…..who cares? We got a great Coach, #8, ….move the F$&K ON! No more BCG news……don’t care…..we don’t live there any more.

I think he’s shown the qualities necessary to take over as Romney’s campaign manager. That position will be or is open, one would think. And serve as Secretary of State in a Romney administration, bringing the same nuanced sense of diplomacy the would-be president possesses.

I sure am glad that Matt “Saturday Night Live” Jones continues to milk this Billy Thug story by providing a useless, daily story. Please Matt Jones try to find some new material, or take a job as a sleazy personal injury attorney. It is truly pathetic to report this non-story.

How is this a ‘non-story’ people??? This guy was the former head coach at KY and left under very strange circumstances. The same thing is now happening at TTech, which just shows what a true clown this guy was.

Not to mention the fact that his bazarre behavior is great fodder for very funny stuff. Drew’s “where’s he hiding now’ post yesterday was hilarious.

Here’s a thought…. if you don’t like what you see on this site, go try another one. No one will miss you.

it’s so funny how things you say get so turned around.. i didn’t say poor billy for being in the spot light.. i know thats what he chose, and he is horrible at it, thats why he tries to run everytime there is bad press. secondly the fact is he didn’t kill anyone. you don’t have to agree with or like him to think that piling on him and what is probably the lowest point in his life is a bad idea. he’s a sack of shit, but he is still a human being, i’m not going to cheer while he burns

  23. Bye Bye BCG

I agree Billy Clyde screwed the pouch and need fired from UK, but don’t try to say how bad he left the program. He left UK in better shape then he found it. Ca had some pieces in place who played key roles for us. Billy Clyde inherited Porter and players like Stewart. Tubby is the man who let our program get to the low place it was. Before anyone can say that BCG missed the NCAA does anyone think we would have made it Tubby’s last year if we wasn’t UK!

  24. jughead
    9:23 pm September 13, 2012 Permalink

Let’s not all jump on this guy. After all he brought at least 3 darn good ballplayers to UK in Jorts, Deandre and Darius. Too, there has to be something to Gillespie when he can get Joe Crawford to get off his lazy ## and drive to the basket. I’ve been priviledged to watch practices at UK over the years and that has spanned Tubby (duller and dullest), Billie (demanding and instructive) and Coach Cal (demanding, instructive, motivated and fun). Some coaches make you do things that are good for you and you hate them for it. Others motivate you to work even harder and you love them for it. The best possible next job for Gillespie — follow Tubby at Gopherland. Gopher fans would have to see him as a big improvement.

The story is speculation on a good job for Billy, right? Well I am suggesting Matt Jones get a job as a personal injury attorney or try for a spot on Saturday Night Live, because his Sports Website is becoming nothing more than a cheap tabloid piece of garbage when it runs this BCG stuff over and over and over. When the story broke it was news, but that was weeks ago. I usually like to listen to Matt’s program but this is over the top yellow cheap shots at a guy that has some serious problems, and it is certainly not something real Kentucky Fans are looking for.

Not sure if some of you realize this or not but you’re not on the Washington Post site. This is KSR. Take another look at the top of the page – “…news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible”. If you expect something different, you’re the one with the issue, not KSR.

Do all of you criticizing KSR for running BCG updates realize this story would be finished by now if BCG had the guts to take his punishment? He is the one drawing it out by his behavior. He needs to face his AD, get fired, and this time, instead of making clueless comments to cat fans that he “would have won the 2011 NCAA Tournament if he had stayed at KY”, he needs to realize he is at fault and needs to change his behavior. He is so egotistical he didn’t learn a single lesson from being fired at KY. Hopefully this time he will get it through his thick head that he has major problems that need to be addressed. He can’t be helped until he accepts the fact that he is the one with the issues and it doesn’t help to go to a place where they tell him he isn’t an alcoholic like John Lucas did.

The Bully G saga is making National headlines- ergo the link to the ESPN story in Andrew’s post. So no, it’s not KSR “stirring the pot”.

    Some of you people- I will never know why- will apparently like and defend Bully G no matter what. He took Kentucky to the N-Friggin’-IT in his second year WITH PLAYERS HE RECRUITED and coached HIMSELF;
blown out at home to Gardner Webb; worst SEC loss EVER to Vandy; and Those kinds of things!

And when 15(!!!) players transfer/leave/quit Texas Tech after less than 2 years, do ya think kinda, maybe, sorta that coach might kinda, sorta be a really really really awful, stupid, abusive, non-coaching dumbass, and those kinds of things?
