This week we’ll definitely see one decision that will have big implications on UK’s 2010 class, maybe two. Tobias Harris is currently on his visit to Georgia Tech, his final visit before deciding. Harris is planning on making an announcement on Thursday on ESPNU, but he’ll have to make up his mind and sign before midnight on Wednesday, which is the signing day deadline. Harris still seems to open to all schools and he’ll probably leave us waiting right up to the announcement before he lets anything out.
The other possibility is Terrence Jones. Still no word from the Jones family on when they’ll make their decision. If he does decide to make this week THE week, UK is great position. Even if he does decide on waiting until the spring, UK still has a great shot. However, most UK fans and probably the UK staff would like to get this kid inked sooner rather than later. Calipari has never been a coach to rush a decision from his targets though.
Now let’s move on to Jelan Kendrick. Kendrick made waves in the recruiting world this weekend when he decided to join Memphis’ 2010 class. Tarik Black is expected to join that class today as well, according to Scout’s Dave Telep and that move would make Memphis’ 2010 class the #1 class by far. What’s important to UK fans though, is losing out on Jelan Kendrick. While Kendrick is definitely a huge loss for the Cats, it is also definitely not an “end of the world” scenario. Kendrick was probably the nation’s best blanket backup plan. He has the ability to play and guard multiple positions which made him exactly what UK needed as they pursued Doron Lamb, Brandon Knight, Josh Selby and probably even the wing forward prospects. He’s that versatile. So it is a big loss but it’s not going to hurt UK much, unless they miss out on a lot of targets, which I just don’t see happening at this point.
