What is the latest in Nike Technology?

Call me when you infuse Bo Jackson’s DNA.

Kentucky announced a few hours ago that they’d be unveiling new uniforms for the 2011 football season.  The only detail provided was that they’d be the “latest in Nike technology”, which of course got us all wondering what exactly that means.  Rocket pads?  Headsets that lose signal when they hear the word “draw” or “screen”?  No one really knows.  But that didn’t stop you guys from taking a few guesses on Twitter.

Here are a few:

They’re guaranteed to put up a big fight, but wither away in the 4th quarter.

There will be different sets depending on ability. In accordance with UK football tradition and recent playcalling tendencies, star players will be outfitted with Nike’s new Flash-Stealth technology. Each game, as the 4th quarter begins, Kentucky’s best football players will instantly become invisible to the offensive strategy for critical end-of-game moments. It should be noted that this state-of-the-art product is endorsed nationally by WWE Superstar John Cena, because you can’t see him either.

Also a streak-ending on/off button. When wanting to end a let’s say 26 year streak, simple turn on the streak-ending button and the game will work itself out.

Here are the new uniforms: http://twitter.com/kmathleyare

Click on the links the newest tweet. These pictures have been around, but they are them. Photos were taken in Nutter. I have to say, i LOVE the away uniforms because of the colored shoulder pads. Also love the TV (shoulder) numbers, which we havent had in a loooong time. The stripe on the helmet is a nice touch, but in the closeup, im disapointed to see no Power K. Also, the UK neckstrap is pretty awesome. IM pretty interested to see how the checkered shoulders look when we can actually see the real uni’s.

Still dont like the blueberry look. We gotta change that up.

Less restrictive sleeves so that Winston Guy can finaly use his arms to tackle someone instead of having to rely solely on his shoulders.

13, 15 – Nevermind. I found the account. I’m not convinced those photos are legit. For one thing, the same guy appears to have posted the same mockup back in April. For another thing, every time word comes out that Nike is unveiling new uniforms for any school or team a “leaked” photo appears using that same template.

#15 – How do you know there are other helmets? Will on the old TCP says hes hearing no Power K. What other helmets would we have? And what do you mean by only “basic” uniforms? The black ones? How do you know all this?

  19. Jason
    11:27 pm June 28, 2011 Permalink

17 – Thats because the pictures were taken back in April while he was there for Junior day. Thats not a mockup, its a picture posted in the Nutter equipment room. Why would that be there? Plus, the format that those pictures are posted on are the exact same as other schools get straight from Nike.

19 – It “could” be real but I don’t buy just because someone says the picture was taken in Nutter. Printing out a mockup and then taking a picture of the print out is a trick we see used all the time when people are trying to pass their mockups off as real. I’m not saying this guy is a liar, but the fact that this appears to be a photo of a printout doesn’t prove anything. Same deal happened a couple of years ago with the UK basketball unis and it turned out the pictures were fake.

That format that you say comes straight from Nike is used now by every single person who makes mockups for fun. It has become ubiquitous and easily accessible. If you don’t believe me, go check out http://www.uni-watch.com. Here is a direct link to a UK mockup made for fun using that same format: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5244/5272731734_ca3bed62ab_o.jpg

  37. The Juggernaut
    7:39 pm June 29, 2011 Permalink

34 – But even if that is true, then anyone wanting to make a mockup knows that’s how they should make it look. Like I said, maybe it is real, but people fake this stuff all the time and many of them go to great lengths to do so. So, I’m not buying that it’s real just yet.
