What do we want for the SEC Tournament?

2016 SEC Basketball Tournament Bracket.indd

The SEC Tournament has finally been set into stone. Kentucky won the SEC yet again and will face either Georgia or Tennessee at 1pm EST on Friday in Nashville. What would be the best outcome for Kentucky in this tournament?

Quarterfinals: Tennessee– The Cats definitely want no part of Georgia. A matchup with Tennessee would make me feel a lot more confident. The Vols lost this week to LSU by double-digits. They are limping into the tournament. Also, with this game being a “home game” for the Cats, a matchup with Tennessee doesn’t worry me at all.

Semifinals: Mississippi State, LSU or Alabama– Either of these teams would give me a sense of confidence on Saturday. Kentucky was able to beat all of them with two of them coming on the road. Now you might be saying, they beat South Carolina at home by 16, but the Gamecocks are still a team I would not want to face.

Finals: Anyone but Vandy or Florida– You can pair the Cats up with any of the rest of the teams on this side and I would feel confident, but if Florida or Vandy made the finals, I would be nervous. Vanderbilt is playing their best basketball of the year and Florida is always a tough out.

Now who is the most likely matchup in each game:

Quarterfinals: Georgia– Again, this scares me. Georgia has had the Cats number in both meetings. They always say “the third times the charm.” Let’s hope that the Cats would prove that to be wrong on Friday

Semifinals: South Carolina– The Gamecocks need to make this game for seeding purposes. They are not a bubble team, but some would say they weren’t last year either, when they were snubbed from the big dance. Frank Martin’s team will be ready for this game, especially after the embarrassment that was in Lexington.

Finals: Florida or Vanderbilt– Florida is by far the second best team in the SEC, but the loss of John Egbunu is taking some effect on the Gators. The Commodores are playing their best basketball of the year and are coming off a near victory in Lexington and a win against the Gators.

Two questions for you:

Too bad ole miss beat South Carolina. If they had lost, ole miss would be the 8, Arkansas the 4, and USC, Vandy, Georgia and Florida would all be on the opposite side of the bracket.

As a Kentucky fan I don’t care who we play. Either we are good enough to beat them all or we are not. Worrying about other teams in the SEC or NCAA Tournament shows fans don’t think this team is good enough to win either.

so were a #2 seed in the tourny with dreams of the final four, but were afraid of playing Georgia, South Carolina and Vanderbilt? If we cant beat Vandy on a neutral court, we don’t have much of a chance getting out of the first weekend. Vandy will be a 13-14 seed in the tourney, if they even get in.
