Yesterday KSR and Coach Cal gave back. While the official numbers have yet to be released the amount will surely make a big difference in the community of West Liberty. Here are some of the various news reports from around the web that covered the event.
First up comes the news report from WYMT Eastern Kentucky news:
Lexington’s WKYT was on the scene in Morgan County to cover the event and had some great quotes from Cal “Think about this story in three years, where people look back and say, you mean you recovered from that? Not only recovered, but are thriving? That’s a movie,” I’d pay to see it.
The world of print also helped bring some attention to the event.
On CoachCal.com Cal discusses the reasoning behind his generosity:
“The best thing about today is finding out the money will be applied for and awarded directly to the individuals and businesses in the town of West Liberty,” Calipari said. “It ensures the common folk will be touched by what we did today. That’s why Ellen and I decided to match. It’s a totally different deal when you know there is a face behind the cause.”
While Cal has come in to the Wildcat family and saved the UK basketball program his impact as an ambassador of the program may be his greatest legacy. Between Hoops for Haiti, the Calipari Foundation, and now this it’s hard to imagine having a better employee in any job.
Finally, Kyle Tucker of the courier-journal has a nice write up of the event and like Cal is quoted in the article “The work is not done in West Liberty”.
