University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

We’re pulling for you, Texas Tech

Texas Tech basketball fans are going crazy for Billy Clyde.  Fans are begging Texas Tech administration to hire our former head coach to replace Pat “Don’t Call Me Daddy’s Boy” Knight, who is 48-awful at Tech.  The fans are even bringing up Billy Gillispie’s win over the Harlem Globetrotters at UTEP (which snapped the Globetrotters’ 298-game streak) as a selling point.  And if that’s not ludicrous enough for you, you could always buy a ‘Get Gillispie’ t-shirt to show your support…

E-mail [email protected] for the official t-shirts.”

I’m buying one because ‘Get Gillispie’ is a common phrase amongst my friends in Lexington:

“Let’s go out and Get Gillispie tonight.  I’ll buy the first round.”  Or, “I woke up in my own vomit on some random couch on campus.  I’m never Getting Gillispie again.”

Good luck, Red Raiders!

Always wondered about the globetrotters do teams actually try to win against them? And if they can sit there and hit four point shots from almost halfcourt all day why aint they in the pros?I mean how in the world they do some of the things they do i will never know.Only watched them a couple times though

I always liked Gillispie (regardless of how rough he was on his players). I still feel that if we gave him a few more years things would have gotten better. He’s a great X’s and O’s coach. That said, love Calipari and glad we did make the decision to lure him here. Get Gillispie to Texas Tech!

I’m actually pullin’ for Billy G here. Hopefully after his experiences here in Big Blue Country, he’s learned better how to conduct himself. Somewhere in that buzz-cut head lies a pretty decent coach, he worked wonders at Texas A & M.

Just anyplace but here. : )

If the Red Raiders want Coach Gillispie, and he wants to go there, then I hope that’s what happens. Once there, I wish him success unless Texas Tech is playing us. He made some mistakes as our coach, and we did not part ways on the best of terms, but I still hope he does well. He’s basically a good guy, and has the potential to be a good coach. I know my views may put me in the minority among Cat fans on this subject, but I’m a live-and-let-live kind of guy. (My exception to that is Rick Pitino and the Cards.)

    4) Do you know what our roster would look like if Gillispie was still here? It’s ironic this post mentions the Globetrotters because we would be the Washington Generals.

    One significant difference, however:

Getting Gillispie – turns 1 stars into 5 stars.

Billy Gillispie – turns 5 stars into 1 stars.

    10) Oh, you mean how two of our CURRENT starters right now are Gillispie guys? I didn’t say it would be on par with what Calipari has brought us, I just think he would have gotten his full roster of players he wanted to coach. Obviously I still would have been unhappy, this is Kentucky. Not Texas Tech.

    20) You’d have a hard time embarrassing me. I know exactly who the starters would be. I went to school with one of them. Don’t pretend you’re the only person here who knows what the Billy Clyde years were like. I’ve been reading KSR since before Tubby left. Just because you don’t agree with me, doesn’t mean you have to get all self-righteous about embarrassing me with knowledge I already have.

Even if Liggins, Miller, and Harrelson wouldn’t have transferred, at the very least Liggins and Harrelson wouldn’t be half the players they are this season. Those two have thrived this year under Cal.

22)You talk like Miller and Harrellson would be starting for Clyde. Harrellson would have probably offed himself in a gas station bathroom stall by now. And God help you if you think Miller is under performing now. Liggins would’ve transferred. So your argument really has no ground. Billy G is a headcase.

Harrelson, Miller, Liggins (if he lasted)….after that I have no idea who it would be. Would Miller or Harrelson stuck around, I doubt it.

    22) And besides, since when did going to school with someone make you an authority on anything to do with UK’s basketball team? I played against Miller and Lofton since like 6th grade, what kind of special inside knowledge does that give me?

This reminds me of a relationship I had in college. I was dating this girl that turned out to be a complete psycho. Some time after breaking up with her my friend started getting interested. I told him “look man I really don’t care if you date her but be warned she’s a crazy [email protected]#$%.” He dated her anyways and had to find out the hard way.

So Texas Tech, let me be the first to say I really don’t care if you take him, but he’s a crazy [email protected]#$%. I’m just sayin.

F#@K GILLESPIE. Are you people insane thinking he would have turned UK around with a little more time. Look up some of the scrubs he offered schollys. Let me save you some time THEY ALL SUCK. And if he had stayed PPat would most likely NOT come back his junior year. NO John Wall NO Eric Bledsoe NO DeMarcus Cousins. BCG was in way over his head at UK. UK is NOT A&M or UTEP or Texas Tech.

  33. DavenderCatTheSequel
    4:26 pm January 20, 2011 Permalink

I took umbrage to your belief that Gillispie would have “turned things around.” That’s all. Nothing personal. But Gillispie was a f’in disaster. Had he had the opportunity to stick around for a few more years, it would have been much worse than the mess he left based on his recruiting cadre & his belief in the “toughness” coefficient. No way Liggins would have stuck around. He would be playing in Europe or Israel or the military right now. Our roster would be composed of guys @ Akron, Appy St, the Cornell bench, & parts unknown if Gillispie was still here. That’s just on the court. The guy was a PR nightmare for the administration & alumni as well. I hope he dried out & got his life squared away. I’m glad he’s not coaching UK.

Thank you #32 sunnycat. The two starters (Miller and Liggins) were highly sought after by all the top schools. Also, BCG would have ruined them anyway. BCG sucks! (At least for UK.)

As a current Texas Tech student and a life-long Wildcat fan, I hope to God that Tech doesn’t hire him. Although he did show much better results at the programs he coached not named Kentucky, and his constant drunkenness would fit in well in Lubbock (since there is nothing else to do way out here), the way he treated his players (at least at UK) was horrendous, and I would never wish that on any of my peers.

CAL GETS IT. HE DOES IT ON AND OFF THE COURT. Clyde….the only place he could socialize was in a bar. Texs Tech would be a good fit cause they have experience putting up with d!ck head coaches
