We’re Kentucky, They’re Florida

Look, I know what you’re feeling. Gloom and doom. The ship has sailed. Nails are in the coffin. Game over man, game over. Kentucky has no shot of taking down the almighty Florida Gators and we might as well book our reservations at the NIT table.  At least that’s what a lot of ‘fans’ would leave you to believe. While it’s true that Kentucky limps to the finish line with a blown tire and the engine stalling a bit this season is not over yet. Kentucky has risen to the occasion several times this year and tomorrow’s game offers them another chance to do just that. RISE.

Early this year Kentucky fought Florida on their home court where they were outmatched in every way. In the battle we lost our best player, backs broken if you will, and were left for dead for the remainder of the SEC schedule. Now things seem to be at their absolute worst. Florida comes into Rupp as the favorite but it isn’t time to count out the Cats just yet. Here’s why Kentucky is going to save the season from sheer destruction:

1. Their Backs Are Against The Wall

When your back is against the wall then there is only one option and that is to fight. The Cats have shown a bit of fight in the other two games that were considered must wins Ole Miss and Missouri. This team just seems like it needs that extra boost to come out playing. Ryan Harrow and Alex Poythress’ greatest games as Wildcats came in the biggest games on our schedule. Hopefully tomorrow will be another one of those games as there will be the added boost of the home crowd.

2. Rupp Will Be Rocking

The team needs this game and when the team needs a game Rupp Arena comes ready to rock. There has been a few times in the past when Florida was come into Rupp as the favorite and just about every time we’ve sent the Gators home with a loss. Remember back in ’03 when Florida came in ranked number 1 in the land? Yeah, me too. I still have my shirt with an S on it from the white out. You know what else I remember about that game? Florida leaving with a 15 point beatdown.

I’ve never heard Rupp louder than that Florida game in Billy Clyde’s final year. The Cats had lost three in a row going into that one and it was also a must-win. I could see a similar environment awaiting the Gators tomorrow. We’re Kentucky, they’re Florida. There’s a natural order to the universe and it’s time to set things right. The Cats can do it if they come to play and Rupp is rocking because…

3. Florida  Is Beatable On The Road

Florida has lost five games this year and all five losses have come outside of the O-Dome. They’ve lost at Arizona, K-State, Missouri, and Tennessee so let’s go ahead and add at Kentucky to that list. Florida doesn’t have much to play for in this game, they’ve already clenched the SEC title and a win over UK is more about bragging rights than increasing their NCAA tournament seed. The game means so much more to Kentucky which gives us the chance to steal this one and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

One game and the entire season can change. Just one. Hopefully the Cats can rise tomorrow and salvage what has been a tumultuous year. All the chips are on the table. Time to win. Go Cats.

I hate to say it, but Joker Phillips already stole that “Rise” slogan two years ago, and it didn’t work out too well for him!

Not a chance for a win. The body language in the above picture tells the story. AG just out there, AP staring into…what?, JM with hands on hip like he is king-hate to say this but he is not much, and what is JH doing-no wonder he gets very little playing time, but the real story here, Coach Cal is probably talking to himself. These guys refuse to listen and Cal has no choice but to play them as the bench is not good. The bench would have a tough time in Rupp in the HS games today. Pretty sad group to call our CATS, but they are. I will watch the game, root for the CATS but expect another heart break afternoon.

Original intent being, segue into huge sales: Viagral and/or Cialis’nall.

First time I read that made it seem like you were saying that ’03 was billy Clyde’s last year. Might want to write a little clearer… otherwise sounds like you don’t know your facts

I find the quotes around the word fan in this statement very interesting: “At least that’s what a lot of ‘fans’ would leave you to believe”. So in a nutshell, if you express your unhappiness and disappointment with this “team” (see what I did there, Andrew?) then you must not be a real “fan”, is that right? I enjoy reading KSR and usually check the site once or twice a day. But when they bust out the blue-tinted glasses and won’t call a spade a spade, it gets to be a bit much for me. Just like this post.

A quick off the subject topic. Kentucky transfer to Georgia Tech, Stacy Poole Jr., is averaging 1.5 points per game for Tech.

Hey, boys – the UK women won a thumping victory in the SEC tourney and are ranked in the top ten, time to post something.

UK is entirely capable of winning. Florida has lost on the SEC road more than once. Against worst teams than UK. If Harrow is a no show, then Polson. Imagine where UK would be if he hadn’t pulled out the Maryland win.

PPS Tubby – with lesser recruits – never had UK lower than an 8 seed (twice) in the tournament and one of those was a horrible miscarriage – UK was 13th in RPI against the #1 schedule in the country. Cal will pull this together again, but respect for how difficult it is year in and year out should be evident.

John Ellis, good point. I always loved Tubby. CAL has his hands full now. Bigger problems. Mongo. Not getting into the Big Dance will suck compared to the publicity to come in re folks – kids heavily recruited, yet disappointingly departing.

That has to be difficult for the kids, the coaches, the minds of those kids coming in.

    Good luck.

    15. FThis Team….you sound like my type of team player. Let’s issue a challenge to Cal….Lose the next 2 games, as expected, and bury this team for 2012….then we can concentrate on Stoops Magic and spring FB as well as get psyched up for the studs coming to campus next year. Oh….and vote to pass on the NIT.

To quote the poet Samuel Hagar, this is all just mental masturbation to me. Heard this before. Talking about what the players can do is not related to what they do on a consistent basis. Thirty games in and they have shown only one consistent ability and that is to play horribly inconsistent. Ten days until spring football starts.

    Kentucky should be so lucky.

Florida is not quite little bro – like de’ville.

While related, and occasionally bruising, they do attempt to chomp.

Cal needs to act less like PT Barnum and more like a coach. If that’s possible. What a circus. If its not heart monitors, it’s dodgeball. Maybe tomorrow he will have the players come into Rupp on elephants or those little midget cars.

    29) Can you people please stop talking out of your ass? We won the title last year and lost 7, read that, 7 of our top 8 players. We returned no starters. Days of the NIT left? Look at the list of title winners that missed the tourney the next year. It’s not one-hit wonders. No one has ever lost as much as we did last year, and it just so happened to coincide with Cal’s worst year developing freshmen this year. Cal had a bad year of picking coachable guys (Poythress, Goodwin, and Harrow have not performed to the standard previous 1st year players at UK under Cal have), and Wiltjer didn’t step up the way Cal hoped. Add in a season-ending injury to our top draft pick, and we are doing fine all things considered. We’re going to have a shot at an undefeated season next year if things keep going as many of us think they will, and yet some of you are acting like our program is in the dumps. Seriously, people, get over yourselves and cheer for this team til we’re done.

If we beat Florida, even if it’s not enough to get us into the NCAA alone (21-11 would be pretty bad), we’ll have momentum going into the SEC tourney and can pick up 1-2 wins to cement a berth. 22-23 wins with a late-season win (home or otherwise) against a top 10ish team will be good enough to slip in. If we don’t beat Florida, then we have to win the SEC tourney. I’d just as soon we win it anyway, unlikely as it is.

Just quit your crying, all of you. You know you’re going to be boasting about us and Cal’s recruiting ability next year anyway, so quit acting like bandwagon fans.

13} exactly who has UF lost to that is worst than us. Ark…oh they beat us. UT…no wait we lost by thirty to them..UF wins if they want to give any effort at all. If they shoot well, and I think they will as they should be relaxed, we lose by 15 plus.
