Today’s show should be great! Sorry Shannon, I’ll be pulling for the ladies.

So who is this guy from Lee County who hates UK athletics and ALL the othe university projects? It’s in Eastern Kentucky… I think that is his last term in office down there in Beattyville or it should be. Call him LIVE! Did he poll the wooly worms?

As a then-9 year old kid, I still remember James Lee was a bad man.. Did anyone else have a set of the player cards for the ’78 team, they weren’t black white, but more like a dark blue and white. Those were one of my most prized possessions for a long time!

  41. Matt & crew: thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for bringing in the guys from the 78 team. It was the first national championship of my lifetime, and the first year I ever got to see a UK game in person (Monday night game vs. GA in Athens…lived in GA at the time), so it was a very special team for me, my favorite. I was 16 years old at the time, we won the game easily, and I believe we retook the #1 position after that because Marquette had lost to Notre Dame on (I think) Sunday (only time I ever pulled for ND, especially with Digger!).

I’ll never forget how disappointed my dad was that he didn’t get to see James Lee throw down one of his patented snow-bird dunks like he threw down against Duke at the end of the championship game. However, it was a GREAT thrill for both of us to see the Cats in person!

My story that deals with the 78 team, I worked at a popular restaurant in Johnson City and coach hall came in during the middle of a busy Saturday. He was with a party of 6 and they sent a representative to name drop and try to get moved up on the wait list, I told them no and they would have to wait like everyone else. That’s when coach Hall approached me and asked to be moved up on list. To which I replied I know who you are and you’re table will be ready in a minute. He was very nice and when he returned to Lexington, he knew the owners of the restaurant where I worked. Found out what my name was and sent me a personalized autographed ’78 national championship poster. What a class act, great man. It now hangs in my living room and is my prized piece of UK memorabilia.

My mother, who passed away in 79 was the major influence in my becoming a huge UK fan, kept a notebook for each year. She had one page per game with a running score, players points and fouls. I still have the 78 notebook and one day hope to get the players from that year to sign it.

  105. 85, Steve Kerr once had opposing fans (while he was in college) chanting “Where’s your dad?” after his dad was killed serving in the Middle East. I think it was AZ St. fans, but I’m not sure.
