Tayshaun needs his retired. NBA Championship, and Olympic gold medalist. What else can a player do to represent his university. Davis to, if he makes the Olympic team and they win a gold medal. Miller should, based on his home town status, and excellent career.
Maybe at BB Madness next year we can have a jersey retirement segment, retiring a large # of jerseys.

It makes absolutely no sense to keep a player from having his jersey retired just because he only played one year. Show me another Kentucky player that had more impact on the program than Anthony Davis. There are rules for how long you have to wait, but whenever he becomes eligible, he deserves to be up there. Many one year players don’t deserve it. John Wall and Demarcus Cousins come to mind; great players, but they didn’t do enough. But there is no reason to limit this retiring jersey thing to 4 year players. If you do, there will be no future retirements because the great players cannot stay four years so the reasoning is going to have to change.
AD should have a “banner” hung listing his many accomplishments…Ryan is right,had the best year in college basketball history to date…should not have jersey retired yet,does not qualify as per existing rules…jersey retirement should come later…JMHO…

Shannon and Ryan, my question to you about Anthony Davis and retiring his number. How many players of the year has UK had in their history? That alone does it for me. He did something at UK that no other person had done before and that’s win the Naismith Player of the Year award.

Memo to Ryan – there are now 14 schools in the SEC and Kentucky ranked 14th in football recruiting.
I think, in lieu of retiring actual #’s for players like Davis, UK should make some sort of “ring of honor” type of award and display it in Rupp. It could be an alternative for players with significant impact without having the career numbers b/c they left early. Besides, the way Cal is going, if he stayed 7-10 years we may run out of all the good numbers…lol

The problem with the “rafter debate” is the Unforgettables are up there. That will always open up guys like Darius Miller for debate. We need to set hard criteria for retiring a jersey like UNC has. But the “Ring of Honor” is a great idea.
All these displays honoring great basketball players, teams and coaches will be built while the FB program slowly dies in the background due to lack of funding.
My wife watched that American Ninja Warriors show. She said that it was pretty cool.

I have to somewhat disagree. Yes, this year’s team is/was talented enough to win without Darius. I’ll give you that. BUT, whenever this YOUNG team needed a bucket and settled down, who did they go to? Daruis Miller. He was also here for 4 yrs. He stuck in there through difficult times at UK when he very easily could have left (see Derrek Jasper).
So, in that respect, I believe that Darius should be in the rafters.
I’m sure people will disagree, maybe will rip me a new one. Oh well…
